Ive moved to Australia from New Zealand and since arriving three months ago my face has had the worst case of acne ever. I did get a mild case of acne in high school but it got better over the years. Now since living in Australia Ive noticed extreme acne and red, puffy. itchy and dry rashes on my face. I used proactive for the first time a month and a half ago and that did help clear the pimples after a week or so but the rashes quickly spread and my face started burning. I then decided to stop using proactive and see the doctor. No money right now for a dentist and I have a new bottle of doxycyline hyclate in 20 mg form (using for acne) pill says lci on one side and 1336 on the other, small round white. I have a tooth abscess and want to know if I can increase the dosage safely to 100 mg per day to fight the infection? ## @Jason, Based on my research, Doxycycline can be used for a tooth abscess. The usual adult dose for a severe bacterial infection is listed at 100mg orally every 12 hours for 7 to 10 days; (but the 100mg may also be taken once daily as a "maintenance" dose for less severe infections). My only question to you would be do you have enough pills to run a full course of treatment, in order to fully eradicate the infection? What are the side effects when taken Doxy- Cycl Hycl 100mg with Diphenhydramine hydrochloride 50mg? One is for my acne and one is an allergy medication ## There are no interactions listed between the two medications. I have been using doxycycline for the past six years to treat acne. I am worried that if I stop taking doxycycline my acne will flare up again. I have tried cold turkey once and within a week my acne became a real problem. I have been trying to reduce my daily intake. Currently I take 1 50 mg tablet every other day.
