how much is a lethal overdose? ## There is no pat answer to this, it varies depending on whether or not the person taking it already has a tolerance to opiates. If a person is opiate tolerant then they would need a higher amount to put themselves in any danger, however, a person who is not used to taking narcotics, would require a much smaller amount to achieve a lethal dose. ## I just took 5 2mg diluadid for the first time and I swear i thought I was gonna overdose do you think I'm gonna be okay im starting to feel better

What is the highest mg. of dilaudid? ## Hello, Sassie! How are you? 32mgs in the extended release formulation. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Morphine intravenously did nothing. No pain relief, no rush, no nothing. Highest permissible dose for my weight. Nothing. Dilaudid took 7 seconds to get from my forearm to my brain. Woooooossssshhhhh! ! Intraven for 4 days, same results every time. Instant heaven. If I gave in, instant addiction. Don't want any of that again. Compared to dil, normal life is total pain. Can't live like that! ## Hello, Robbie! How are you? That does happen, sometimes, not every medication works for everyone that tries it. That's why they are usually multiple choices available in any given therapeutic category. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything...

Can I cut/ break this pill in half, or is it time release? I do not generally take painkillers but my sister gave me one since I am unable to move my neck. ## Cut it in half with a sharp knife. Youll get 2mg of Dilaudid. You would be much better off taking the whole pill. ## Would 4 mg be too strong? I used to take Vicodin and have a high tolerance to it. I have taken a small dose of roxy in the past and it was too potent for me. I didn't want to repeat it with this dilaudid. ## Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, it is a very potent narcotic, so if you aren't used to taking it, there can be a danger of overdose if you start off with 4mgs. You really shouldn't take it, at all, without a doctors approval. However no, this tablet is not time released, it is ...

I've had two back surgerys and I have a spinal cord stimulator in iam on 60mgs of morphine and 8 mgs of dilaudid and I still have break through pain plus iam on 150mgs of Lyrica iam just wondering what I can change to cover the pain. ## Hello, Sheri! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. You could possibly raise either the Morphine or the Lyrica to higher dosages to get better pain control. The Morphine carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. What other medications have you tried? How often do you take the Dilaudid? ## I'm on Dilaudid it makes all my bones hurt really bad.

Hi, I have chronic pain. I have Interstitial Cystitis, have chronic pelvic pain, shoulder pain, neck and back pain, etc. I am a 45 year old woman who has had 4 children so you'd think that I would be able to handle pain. However, I cannot. At 5'9" tall, I only weigh 115 pounds so you'd think that pain meds would hit me like a ton of bricks! They don't. I have a very low threshold for pain, but a very high threshold for pain medication or just medication in general. For instance, I had a hysterectomy two weeks ago. Before the surgery I was given Versed. Versed does NOTHING for me. I told the Anesthesiologist but he gave it to me anyway. It does not cause amnesia in me like it does in most people nor does it have a sedating effect. So he then gave me a dose of Fentanyl...

Does anyone know what class of narcotic dilaudid is in? (Class 1, class 2, etc.) ## Hi Sassie! I'm almost positive it's a class 2 controlled substance. U can look up Dilaudid on the web, and, it will tell u all about it. U can even look it up on this site. ## @Sassie, Just to confirm, Cats is right about Dilaudid being a Schedule II narcotic. According to usdoj.gov, substances in this schedule are notorious for their high potential of abuse; which could later lead to severe psychological and/or physical dependence. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Dilaudid Details Is this something that your doctor recommended?

I have been on 8mg Dilaudid and 80mg hydrocodone for about 4 yrs. My doctor now changed me to Hysingla (hope that's right spelling). Anyways, they are 80mg, but had to change back because they didn't work as well. Now he's telling me that between the 2, I'm taking like 12 times the amount of the highest does of morphine given out and is now sending me to a pain doctor. Is that true? ## No, you are not taking 12 times the highest dose of Morphine, but you are exceeding the highest dose that the DEA recommends. They have issued directives that doses be limited to no more than the equivalent of 120mgs of Morphine, per day, some states have lowered it further to no more than the equivalent of 100mgs of Morphine, per day. You are currently taking roughly twice that. The only ...

Dilaudid cough syrup in the USA and Canada is a scheduled II controlled drug as it has 1 mg of hydromorohone per 5ml of cough solution .. It never was over the counter in the last 50+ yrs... You may be confused with some Meds like robitussin AC which has only 10mg of CODIENE in it per 30ml of syrup and thus is a controlled 5 script and you can sign for it at some states pharmacy counter!! ## I'm not sure who suggested otherwise to you, but Dilaudid Cough Syrup (guaifenesin + hydromorphone) is definitely regarded as a controlled substance - available by prescription-only. Perhaps other countries are more liberal about its presence over the counter, due to the guaifenesin, but at least here in the US it requires a doctor's script (probably because of dilaudid's high potential ...

I have cancer and was prescribed to take 3 pills every three hours. By mistake I took 4 pills thinking they were 1 mg and they are 2 mg. Is there anything I can do to delete the dosages? ## This medication is hydromorphone ## You can't delete a dosage, only time will take care of that. That's not an inordinately high dosage, but if you aren't opiate tolerant, it could cause problems or overdose. Did you suffer any ill effects? The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## You should be just fine even though you lack any real tolerance. You have not ingested enough to cause any type of overdose. You may feel slightly woozy...

Hello everyone, Currently i am prescribed 16mg orally of dilaudid every 3-4 hours. I have just begun my 1st day of weaning myself off by cutting down to 14 mg for this next whole week, with the help of valium. I will continue to cut down like this until the last dose. Now i understand that this is an extremely high dose but im focusing on getting off of it and not worrying about how i got on it. The reason it got so high was because i have this chronic severe chest pain that after 4 1/2 months they have been unable to find a reason for the pain. Last week in the hospital i was in so much pain and and didnt know why until i found out that some idiot dr. cut my dilaudid dose in half, so i was screaming and pain and going through severe withdrawl. I know i have a long tough road ahead of m...

I had a knee surgery yesterday. I have been using subutex to help me taper narcotics. I stopped the subutex 2 weeks before surgery. My doctor prescribed both percocet and oxycontin. I am getting no pain relief. The iv Dilaudid worked in the hospital. Has anyone taken Dilaudid by pill at home? ## I have suffered with chronic neck and back pain for years due to disk and nerve problems. My Dr. switched me from oxycontin to diulaudid (4-8 mg) and it worked for the first 9 mos. or so, then I got no relief. Many people get sick on it or very itchy. I am now on a higher dosage of Percoset. ## Are you familiar with subutex? ## No, I'm not. ## It is a new drug that has some pain killing ability. It is a controlled substance. When you take it other narcotics don't work. So it is good for ...

Will a 75 mcg/hr fentanyl patch help with dilaudid withdrawal? ## Tramadol 50 mg x 2 tablets is the only thing that works for me when I can't find a pharmacy to fill my Dilaudid. I have heard it helps with Oxy and other pain reliever withdrawals. The stupid Commonwealth of Kentucky has outlawed Tramadol and Lyrica is highly regulated because it helps with withdrawals. Yes, they are living in the stone age. So, Tramadol must work for others as well. Your doctor should prescribe it, it is available at any pharmacy, doesn't help that much with the pain, but you won't get sick. ## Fentanyl is much stronger, so that would actually be the wrong direction to go. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, diz...

I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis nine years ago. I've had a lamectomy, a spinal fusion, and numerous outpatient surgeries since then without success. I've been prescribed methadone HCL (30 mg every 12 hours); Valium (5 mg every 8 hours); Butalbital ((APAP-CAFF 50-300-40 every 8 hours for headaches complicated by these opiate combinations); and dilaudid (16 mg every 8 hours) since then. It is important to know that I have a high level of tolerance to these opiates. In fact, even with these prescriptions my pain score is consistently 7-8/10. As of late, surprisingly, within 15-20 minutes of taking dilaudid I experience strong heart palpitations, which go away within 20-30 minutes of deep breathing and lying down with my legs elevated. However, I'm now really worried and af...

A dear friend recently died while in the hospital after receiving oxycontin 20mg and dilaudid 4mg within 19 minutes of each other does anyone know if that would be a lethal dose contributing to her death? Any information would help. Thank you ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? I'm very sorry for your loss. But no, it isn't likely, neither of those are high doses. What was she being treated for? If she had some condition that caused depression of her central nervous system, these medications could worsen that and may contribute. Alternatively, there's a chance she may have been allergic to something. What was her death attributed to? The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, di...

What class of narcotic is dilaudid? ## Hello, Sassie! How are you? There are actually just drug classes, not narcotic classes, because not all medications in the various classes are narcotics. As to which one Dilaudid/Hydromorphone is in, its high potential for abuse causes it to be considered a Schedule 2 substance. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks, Verwon. I have Hep C. I go to pain management Dr. once a month to get scripts for dilaudid. Been taking meds for 4 yrs. I'm on Dilaudid 8mg and fentynal 75 mcg/hr every 72 hr, and I still experience Severe pain! I was wondering I'd there was suggestions on what I should ask the Dr, I don't want to seem like I'm drug seeking but what other medication do you think could help me? ## How often do you take the Dilaudid? There is a higher dose of the Fentanyl available, that you may be able to try. However, it leaves you nowhere to go, since it is the highest available. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## I take the Dilaudid every 4-6hr ## Im sure you found an answer by now but in case you didn't.......li just started with the fentanyl patch 50 mcl ( and ju...

I have 4 mg of dilaudid but in on about 170mg of methadone, I recently feel and sprained my elbow and was wondering if this will take away the pain, or will I be taking it for no reason ## Hi Joanna from RI, because u r on such a high dose of methadone, taking the 4mg of Dilaudid will probably defeat the purpose. I wouldn't recommend taking the Dilaudid. You probably wouldn't get any effect from it anyway. But, I wouldn't mix the 2. I'm sorry 2 hear about your pain, I suffer everyday with pain. But, I'm on suboxone. Use 2 b on methadone, which helped much more with pain. But, I switched 2 suboxone. What a dumb move I made. I'm also from RI. Good Luck! ## No dilaidid is on of those meds that work great on pain while takeing methadone i was on very high doses of me...

I am curious as to how often this medication can be taken. Currently I take it every 8 hours, but it doesn't last that long. ## I take 6mg diludid suppossitory (2 3mg )with 50 mg Phenegan shots every 3-4 hours for my Gastroparesis Episodes. I have build up a tolerance to the drugs and have to take high doses now. The body does seem to build up immunities to the two drugs and I have to up the doseage about every year. We are trying 75 mg Demerol now instead of diludid to try and break the cycle, but it doesn't seem to be working as well. ## The doctors i have dealt with as to using dilaudid some will let u have 1 mg every 3 hours which doeant last that long 4 me but if i ask for stronger dose they look at me like I am nuts. Or they are afraid I will become addicted to it. Its lik...
