What is dextroamphetamine/amphetamine er? I've just started this med. Does it take time for it to build up in your system before it starts working? If so, how long does it take? ## This is a generic for Adderall, which is most commonly used to treat ADHD, narcolepsy, and shift work sleep disorder. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, insomnia, nervousness, and anorexia. There should be some immediate effects, but it will take 4 to 5 weeks to reach its full level of efficacy in your body. Hey all, I take Dex IR for ADHD-C in the afternoons and it works great. I need to find an XR medication to take in the AM that works as well as my PM Dex booster. Pdoc and I have tried Adderall XR (made me fatigued, flat, and surly--I don't think my brain plays well on l-amphetamine) and Vyvanse (GI side effects and felt like a sugar pill--don't think I metabolize it correctly). I'm thinking ER Dextroamphetamine (the spansules) might be the next logical thing to try. Generics are tricky and I know there is no longer a brand name Dexedrine Spansule. So, for those on the generic dextroamphetamine spansules, what generic brand do you use/have tried, and what do you think? I was dxed with adult ADD 8 yrs ago--and precribed mallinckrodt 5 mg tablets IR--My daughter also has it and unluckily ended up with Bar-now Teva's dexedrine--2 yrs ago--I could not longer get Mallinckodt IR tablets and was put on Barr--hated them--now that teva has taken over--Im having a terrible time. Theses pills are garbage--First they were to strong--now the ones I get do nothing--took 3 this am and slept for 2 hrs. I have been taking Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine Sulfate XR) for 3 years now and it has always looked the same: clear and dark brown manufactured by BARR, imprinted with the same and the numbers 956. Two months ago the medication I received was blue. I was stupid and didn't think twice about it only to be called by the pharmacy and told I had been given Adderall by mistake at the end of the month. The following month my medication was back to the usual clear and brown. This month I have been given blue pills again. They gave them to me in a bottle that says "Dextroamphetamine Sulf ER 15MG" as it should, they scratched out "BARR" and wrote "Global" on the manufacturer part. Hi all. I have been taking 30mg/day generic dexedrine IR tablets for 7 years now, and while I've seen a shortage happen occasionally it's always passed eventually. I picked up my prescription yesterday and found the pharmacy had given me ER capsules instead of IR tablets. Its a new-ish pharmacy for me so I figured it was a mistake, but when I asked them about it they told me that the generic IR tabs were discontinued entirely. Is this true? Hi: I've been prescribed Adderall 20mg IR (generic amphetamine salts, 2x daily) and I found I was just dripping sweat in any type of heat or even at 40 deg after some exertion. My doctor switched me to dextroamphetamine (again, generic, 10 mg, 2x daily), and there is no improvement. The new drug is not as effective as the Adderall. My doctor is not that familiar with this class of drugs, but my pharmacist specialized in mental health drugs and suggested that an ER or XR version might work better.
