I am 65 year old. I am having severe problems with dry cough. It comes once in every year. It lasts for 2 months. What can replace Novahistine DMX cough syrup? Nothing helps now since they discontinued this syrup years ago. Taking them individually also doesn't work. DMX helped within 5 minutes. ## When you took them individually, were they in tablet/capsule form, or liquids? Since a cough syrup is liquid, it is normal for it to work fairly fast, but tablets, and capsules tend to take a bit longer to take affect. Novahistine DMX contained Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, and Pseudoephedrine, and this combination is available in a couple other products, as well, such as Robitussin Cough & Cold D, and Maxifed DMX. What's alternative medication for tussigon. My dog is 15.5,15lb shihtzu with partially collapsed trachea, with cough/gagging episodes mostly upon waking up - drink water, excitement. He has been on tussigon 1/2 pill 1-2x p/d. Very hard to give pill. Tried everything from pill pockets, ALL kinds food, empty capsules, compounding, pill ejector, etc, grinding and add chicken flavor & 10 drops water and baby syringe into pocket in mouth to hide it.
