Almost all the times that i have colds, something starts to grow near my nostrils and even on my lips. It's like small blisters with white liquid in it. Is that the so-called COLD SORE? How can i avoid this? Please help coz its leaves dark spots around my nose and sometimes small scars on my lips.

I have developed 2 cold sores. Can Amox-Clav help cure them? They are very tender to the touch and my lips are swollen. ## Hello, Laura! How are you doing? I am sorry about the cold sores, I know how horrible they can be. And no, an antibiotic will not do anything to help, since they are caused by a virus. To help prevent them, in the future, you may want to ask your doctor about trying Acyclovir, since it is approved to reduce the outbreaks. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications?

Why is Viractin so hard to find? Is it being discontinued and if so, why? I've used it for years in conjunction with Abreva for cold sores and I love it but it keeps getting harder to buy and I don't understand why when it's such a great product! ## Viractin contains the active ingredient Tetracaine, which is a local anesthetic used to numb the area, topically. I'm not finding any specific information, but it appears that the company that makes it might have discontinued it. It's made by Medibrands and they no longer list any information about it on their site and most online sites that listed it for sale say it is currently out of stock. I don't know which one might be available in your area, but many products use a similar ingredient called Benzocaine, so you m...

I have a lot of tension and developed cold sore a stiff neck and swollen glands under my jaw. Would Anaerobyl 400 work for this? ## Hello, Heidi! How are you? No, it will not. A cold sore and its accompanying symptoms are caused by a herpes simplex virus, so to lessen its duration or prevent future outbreaks, you need an antiviral medication, such as Acyclovir. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain. If you are under a lot of stress and tension, you may want to take it regularly to prevent future outbreaks. Can't find Viractin in store disconnitued or meet a prescription? ## I am sorry, but Viractin has been discontinued by the manufacturer. It contained the active ingredient Tetracaine, which was a topical anesthetic, so it really did nothing to shorten the duration of a cold sore, though the moisturizing effects of it could help keep them from drying out and cracking and bleeding. You may want to try a different over the counter product, such as Abreva, which contains Docosanol, it is an antiviral, which can shorten the duration of a cold sore, since they are caused by a virus. Have you consulted your doctor, to see what they'd advise you to use as an alternative? ## I have been using Viractin for this past week and I am now out. This topical gel is the only product that will let...

I was told by my Dr to use Voltaren on my cold sores is this a correct usage? ## Hi Mel, Based on my research, Voltaren (diclofenac) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the relief of joint pain of osteoarthritis in the knees, ankles, feet, elbows, wrists, and hands. It seems to have no mention of being used for cold sores, but I have read posts from other who have used it for that purpose with good results. In that sense it could just be a common off-label usage for the drug. I hope this helps!

It's very sore. I juse broke out and have blisters. I'm not taking anything yet but do have some lidocaine ointment ## Hello, Nik! How are you doing? I am very sorry about the cold sores, I know that they can be very painful, as well as embarrassing. There are several products available over the counter that can help alleviate the discomfort, including Carmex and Blistex. I'd not suggest using the Lidocaine, unless it is specifically approved to be used on the facial/oral area. Abreva is another over the counter product that can sometimes help shorten the duration of a cold sore. The NIH and FDA list cold compresses, or ice as possibly helping to relieve the discomfort, they also suggest using Orajel, Anbesol, Tylenol or Advil to help with the pain. Of course, please follow ...

SORES APPEAR WHEN EATING ACIDIC FOODS ## Are most of them inside, or outside of the mouth? Can you please clarify? Mouth ulcerations can occur inside your mouth, with acidic foods. They are usually called canker sores. They can be very painful, they get more aggravated with alcohol, tomatoes, orange juice, or anything else acidic, and they may be painful for several days, they can take 7 to 10 days to heal, according to NIH studies. However, if they are outside the mouth, the FDA warns that they may be cold stores, which are caused by a herpes simplex virus, which can also erupt with irritation from acidic foods on the outside of the mouth. Other irritants may also cause them to erupt, and that can include chapped lips, and some medications. Are you on any medications? What does your no...

This gel is heaven sent for cold sores/herpes Simplex or veneral herpes. It give the same wonderful relief to both herpes. Applied to red ant bites it stops the festering . Applied to mosquitos bits it takes the sting out and reduces the size of the welts. Like others I have not been able to purchase at local drug stores. Where can I order on line in quantities of 10 or more. This is a product you want to share with young families and the older folks. ## I'd recommend being careful about using on an area of the body for which it is not intended. Doing so may lead to some possible serious adverse reactions and/or yeast infections. To treat genital issues, it is best and safest to stick with a product that is specifically formulated to be used in those areas. Learn more herpes details...

Felt the cold sore tingle this morning on the right side of my upper lip. I had left home and could not take Lysine tablet. I stopped at the store and got Morgans Lysine. Started using it immediately. Now it is evening. The sore got worse. Another started on the left side of my lip, and one in the middle. As well, everywhere there is one on my upper lip, one has began on my lower lip. Now I have 6 cold sores. I would not recommend using Morgans Lysine.
