I have been using Cefadroxil as treatment for a staph infection in my hip replacement joint for a year. Is this medication dangerous for my body? Previously, I've had a 6-week course of Cefazolin administered through a PICC line. I am trying to understand the potential dangers this could pose to my health. ## The risks caused by the infection are far greater than any risk associated with the antibiotics used to combat it, severe out of control infections can be deadly. Although the directions say to take with OR without food, my advice is to take with food because this medication can be rough on the gastrointestinal(G.I.) tract, as evidenced by a side effect of diarrhea. May also dry you out, so drink a good amount of water, which is a good idea anyway, especially when your body is fighting off an infection. ## Most antibiotics will cause diarrhea when they start to take effect in your body, that is a perfectly normal effect.
