Carbamazepine 200

Has Teva changed the formula of the generic for Tegretol? My husband is taking Carbamazepine 200mg 8 pills a day. He is getting a horrible rash on his face that looks like an allergic reaction. Hi Dr. said is was adult acne but it is getting worse every week. I question this because I once had a reaction due to new formulation by drug manufacturer. ## I really don't know, because if they make a change to the inactive ingredients, they don't have to report that, since they are considered inactive. In addition, regardless of how long someone has been using a medication, it is always possible to develop a reaction to it. Has he considered seeing another doctor for a second opinion? ## He has seen three so far. The last Dr gave hime oral steroids for the inflamation and antibiotics....

my pharmacy changed medicine on me... again...on my 'generic' carbamazepine . called them up and i mentioned to the girl that i have been prescribed the yellow 'carbs' with NC*200 on it for 2-3 years...now i am getting a capsule i took when i was younger and it was called 'tegretol'...it is half teal and gray capsule with what i can make out S433 .she said it is a 200 mg ER capsule carbamazepine . AND what i take are not tegretol at all...i am so confused...this is a nation-wide pharmacy... ## That is correct, Tegretol is the name brand and the time released ones are actually tablets with a circle and T logo on them. I take this medicine for years and my life savor for years. No other alternative medication works for me. Absolutely no other! All of of a sudden this medicine is disappeared/discontinued by the manufacturer. I cannot get it from any place. Where I can get a ndc '109' medicine..? Any other manufacturer? I have been taking the this drug from the past 16 years. I started with Carbamazepine. When the drug Oxcarbamazepine was introduced, I was asked to replace Carbamazepine with Oxcarbamazepine. The dose has been increasing since then. When I started taking this dose, I took 200 mg per day. My medical condition remained stable for 25-30 days with the frequency of epileptic attack of 1 attack per month. After this duration, the frequency of attacks increased. When consulted the doctor, he increased the dose. This cycle kept on repeating itself till the dose increased to 1200 mg per day which is the maximum dose an average adult can take per day. Thank you ## Hi Dawn, According to the manufacturer, it has been stated that several weeks are often required in order for carbamazepine to reach its full effectiveness. However they also go on to note that improvements in symptoms may occur sooner in some patients. I would just recommend keeping an open line of communication with your doctor to discuss how things are going for you during the first few weeks of being on this medication. In certain situations it may take up to several weeks before you even notice enough changes in your symptoms to decide if this medication is really right for you.
