I had surgery on both feet to remove lypomas on Jan. 19. 1 foot was healing very slowly. Dr. thought I may have staph - did a culture. It came back no staph or infection. Said I have skin flora. Dr. put me on this antibiotic as a precaution b/c this Wed. he is going to do a "scrub" on 1 foot to enable new skin to grow back. I took med. for 7 days ( 1 twice a day.) He ordered a refill. I took 2 pills of the refill & work up with a severe rash resembling measels. I have no itching. The last pill I took was Thursday a.m. Dr. put me on benadryl gel caps every 4 hrs. Problem is that when I woke up this morning (Sat.) the rask had gotten much worse & spread to my entire body. I have been running 101 - 102 fever for 2 days now. I am taking Bactrim DS for an infection cellulitis due to a cut on my leg. Is this the right antibiotic given to me? ## Hi Marie, Based on my research, Bactrim DS is used for treating cellulitis infection. If I can recommend anything else to help the healing process, it would be to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and look into supplements that will boost your immune system. A good anti inflammatory supplement is Echinacea Goldenseal. Also, Tea Tree and Lavender essential oils are very good for skin related infections because they are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. If you decide to try any of my suggestions, make sure you do plenty of your own research! I hope this helps!

Can bactrim ds be inserted vaginally if not able to keep down orally ? ## Hello, Kels! How are you? No, that wouldn't be a good idea. Since they aren't manufactured to be used as pessaries and antibiotics can cause yeast infections…well, I think you can see where I'm going with this. Learn more Bactrim details here.* If you can't keep it down orally, then you may want to talk to your doctor about trying a different antibiotic that won't be so harsh on your stomach, or see if they can prescribe an antiemetic to prevent the vomiting. Is there anything else I can help with? This antibiotic may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

I was prescribed bactrim or moderate acne and have been on the generic form sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 once daily for 5-6 weeks and have seen little to no results. Anyone know time line for this stuff to start working? I've been on keflax, ampicillin with success but I recall those working faster. No side effects but no success either, any advice?? ## From what I've found when researching this, results should start to be seen at about 6 weeks of use. If you haven't seen any results yet, then it just may not be the right antibiotic to help you. Have you ever tried Doxycycline? You can learn more Doxycycline details here. I'd suggest asking your doctor about it, if you haven't. Many people use it very successfully for acne. ## Well my 15yr old daugher got prescribe...

Looking at all the allergic reactions to Bactrim. If there is any way you can use another antibiotic, do so. This medication is seriously dangerous. I say this as a nurse, and also as a victim of a sulfa allergy. I was put on Bactrim for a MRSA infection. Long story short... Developed aseptic viral meningitis for the Bactrim. Ended up in the hospital for four days. Worst illness ever!!!! Look for fevers, severe headache, stiff neck. It will also cause "thrush" or yeast in your mouth. Painful. Rashes, vomiting, and loss of appetite are also common side effects. Avoid this medication if at all possible. Especially if you are immunocompromised! ## From what I've researched online, Bactrim does have quite an intimidating list of side effects / allergic reactions associated with ...

Will a seven day dose work. I went to Mexico to buy it and the box only has 14 and the dosage is for 1 every 12 hours. ## The dosing schedule for this drug is largely dependent on the severity of the type of infection you may be dealing with. For example: The usual adult dosage in the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis is 1 Bactrim DS (double strength) tablet or 2 Bactrim tablets every 12 hours for 14 days. For the treatment of traveler's diarrhea, the usual adult dosage is 1 Bactrim DS (double strength) tablet or 2 Bactrim tablets every 12 hours for 5 days. The recommended dosage for patients with documented Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia is 75 to 100 mg/kg sulfamethoxazole and 15 to 20 mg/kg trimethoprim per 24 hours given in equally divided doses every 6 hours...

Which might be a better antibiotic and cause less stress on your liver? ## Hello, Mike! How are you? Generally, Bactrim is the most problematic antibiotic, overall, not just for any possible effect on the liver. It tends to be much more harsh, since it is a sulfa based antibiotic, so it usually causes a lot more side effects and many more allergic reactions than others. It's also very rough on the kidneys and can easily cause dehydration. Thus, if you have a choice, you might want to try Cipro first and save the Bactrim as a last resort, if others don't work. I rarely tell anyone to take it as their first option. Typical side effects to Cipro may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I took bactrim generic to treat a vaginal labia cyst in late Oct, marsupialization surgery. The heavy duty bactrim seemingly got rid of the infection in that spot. That said, I suffered, for five weeks from acid poo and skin irritation down there, colitis syptoms like eat and then toilet time diarhea for five weeks. Plus, I got a painful diaper rash, and two yeast infections. Also, every time I shaved, even with a premium new razor - I got cuts on my thighs that filled with small amounts of pus. I added a daily vitamin, calcium and a probiotic to my diet which stopped the acid ass and #2 diarrhea. Ugh! 40 days since the cyst, I got another bad infection. Deep in left butt cheek. Dr. Ordered up Bactrim again. I near immediately got a major headache which awoke me in the night - a horrend...

I havea real phobia about swallowing pills of any kind and my doctor syas it only comes in pill form ## Yes, you can do that with these. I was prescribed Bactrim because of an upcoming biopsy. Funny thing, my legs have been hurting for years, hard to even sit sometimes, and I walk with a limp. After a week on Bactrim these symptoms went away. I sure would like to know why. Three days after finishing the prescription the pain came back. ## That is very unusual, since it is a sulfur based antibiotic, it's most often known to cause the exact opposite and cause pain in people that are sensitive or allergic to it. You can learn more Bactrim details here. I really can't say why it may have helped. Have you ever had any testing done to see what's causing the pain?
