My 25 yr old daughter took accutaine 6 months ago, for 5 months and now has depression and fatigue. Also she has ringing in her ears, blurry vision and headaches. She's having trouble working as she did a year ago. Anyone else have these symptoms? Any suggestions about what she can do to help with these symptomsand how long they may last? Thanks for any help anyone can offer. ## Accutane is actually well known for causing such symptoms, even after the course of treatment is finished. However, to be certain that's what has caused them, she should see a doctor who can give her a proper diagnose and help her find solutions. Are there any other questions or comments?

I just ended Accutane. I was on 80 mg. I just ended it today. I was wondering if anybody knew when my chapped lips, loss of hair, dry nose, dry skin, and aching bones will go away? ## Hello Jessika, Please read this Discussion Thread with over 600 post. There are many questions and a lot of good answers to what can happen. I opened this thread up 2 years ago cause my son was having the same symptoms as you. Best Wishes, Scott ## Sorry to say my dry lips NEVER went away. I took Acutane when I was 20, now 43. Jo Malone makes an excellent lip moisturizer, I live by it! ## The thread that Scott is recommending is very helpful! I posted in there a couple of times, as I took Accutane when I was 16. I'm 22 now and still have dry lips. It's not severe or anything, but I do find myself h...

I am a 60 year old male who has had acne for 40 years. Eventually, after many years, my doctor sent me to a dermatologist. She prescribed 60mg a day and, after 6 weeks, I feel like a zombie! Aches, pains - I feel my age. Anyone else out there who takes this at my age? ## I would stop Accutane! You do understand that Accutane is a Chemo drug....If you delt with Acne for 40yrs then I would suggest you find others ways that are safer. There are teens and young people like me who now have joints and bones of that of a 60yr old due to this poison. What have you tried in the last 40yrs for your acne? ## I am a 52 year old women who has been on accutane for 1 month. I had severe acne and severe oily skin since I was 13 years old. I am thrilled so far with the results with accutane. I am having...

Hi, I'm a 38 year old female who just started taking 20mg of accutane 3 days ago. I have very persistent, moderate back acne. I have a few questions that I forgot to ask my dermatologist: what is the best lotion/moisturizer that I should use when I start having dry skin? What kind of soap should i use, as i use dial right now? Also, I have read that aquafor is a life/lip saver...is this Otc or prescription? And a question for the ladies: did you use liquid foundation while your skin was dry and flakey? If so, what kind did you use? I am just trying to prepare myself for the upcoming months. I am scared (bc of all of the horror stories I've read) but also very hopeful for the end result of CLEAR skin! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! ## I took two courses of ...

ok so im 30 years old, i have bad acne face and my back since being 14, tryed every antibiotic n lotions n potions but nothing worked. been under the demertology for years getting MESSED about, couldnt get prescription so took matters in to my own hands and bought on line from us. they arrived in red blister packets in envelope, been taking for 1 month now no serious side effects as yet except very dry lips, had no major breakouts so so good so far :) ## Please be careful and make sure that you let your doctor know that you've obtained this and are taking it. There are reasons doctors are reluctant to prescribe it. The first is that you can't risk getting pregnant while taking it, it is very well known for causing severe birth defects. And the next reason is due to the long-term...

I took accutane at 12-13 years old.. I am currently 16 years old with NO side effects and NO reason to hate accutane. This drug saved my life. As a teenage/preteen girl, I went to the pool with my friends and never took my shirt off because I was scared to show my acne covered skin. Now I am confident with my body. I was on accutane for 6 months straight with cystic acne all over my face, back, and chest. Do not listen to the ones blaming accutane for all of your medical issues. People just DEVELOP medical issues. Part of being human beings. This was a miracle drug. Go for it if your acne is bad. You won't regret it. I couldn't say enough great things about it. ## Hello, Hannah! How are you? I'm very glad that this medication worked so well for you. However no, people don...

I took accutane for 1 year when I was 16 years old. While the results were great, I never knew the trouble I would later encounter. It took my husband and I 5 years to have our first child after countless time and money at an infertility doctor. This doctor had a the question " Did you ever take accutane?" on his medical registration form. That was the first aha for me concerning infertility and accutane. Since then I have had surgery for endometriosis, been diagnosed with PCOS that I have had to be on medication for. has 2 miscarriages and just recently found out that my thyroid has failed and am now on more medication. I am worried about what other damage this medication has done and when the effects might show up. ## Hi, Troubled! I am very sorry about the problems that you...

My daughter took accutane 6 months ago and is now having problems with her vision, her eyes get really tired easily and burn, also she is feeling depressed all the time, and she is also tired all the time. Does anyone know if these symptoms will eventually go away, or is she stuck with them forever? Also any recommendations on treatment for these problems? Thanks a lot. ## Accutane, which contains the active ingredient Isotretinoin has been known to have an effect on vision and cause long term side effects, but has she consulted her doctor? It is important that she do so, to determine whether or not it was caused by the medication and, after receiving a diagnosis, what her treatment options are and only a doctor will be able to advise her on that. The severe side effects that this medic...

Around 2005 my 15 yr. old son was put on Accutane for severe acne. He begin being very tired, but most teenagers come home from school and take a nap especially when catching the school bus at 6:30 am. His acne cleared up very quickly. He was very active, baseball, volleyball, etc. He started having symptoms at age 16 of rapid heart palpitations and shortness of breath, just walking across the yard, but didn't say anything because he thought he was "out of shape". I immediately took him to the doctor who could not find anything wrong on physical exam. So he submitted a full blood panel. That night I received a phone call to get him to the emergency room immediately, his red blood cells and platelets were critically low and he needs a blood transfusion. Upon further testing h...

I am currently a 17 year old male and senior in highschool, and suffered from acne for over 5 years. In 8th grade acne started invading my face. Freshman year it continued, and would not go away. We tried creams, pills just about anything you could possibly try. My sophmore year is when it erupted. Acne started forming on my back and chest, and I literally had boils on my back and chest. It was very painful. I also play football, and it hurt very bad to put on my shoulder pads, and the embarassment to even take my shirt off in the locker room after practice. It caused me a lot of stress. It hurt to take showers because the water would hit these boils. I had cystic acne. I had over 15 large pimples/boils on my back and chest both. This continued for another year. As I still tried creams,...

It has almost been a year since I finished my 5 month accutane treatment, and I could not be happier with the results. I took 80mg a day for 5 months. I find this to be more than the usual amount given (my friend only took 30mg for 6 months), but I believe this aggressive and short treatment was the reason for such success (that same friend relapsed only a few months later... I think because of her low dosage). During accutane, I experienced extreme dryness (I even got eczema on my hands and arms), I had really bad back pain the last month or so of treatment, my hair thinned a little in the front (it has all grown back now), and my personality was a little more secluded too (this is probably because I was ashamed of my worsening acne and not due to the actual drug). My lips were really ...

My 86 year old mother has just been prescribed seretide for her chonic obstructive pulonary disease. Yesterday evening, she took a puff and she said it threw her across the room and she was knocked against a kitchen cupboard twice. I cannot find anything that suggest that this would be a side effect of the inhaler. .

Has anybody found any resolve for fatigue induced by accutane? It's been years since I've been off, and I'm so exhausted all of the time. Anybody else suffer from exhaustion? ## Hello, Eric! How are you doing? I am sorry that you're suffering from such fatigue. However, are you certain that it is due to treat he Accutane? Has this been medically confirmed? There are many other issues that can cause it, so you need to have it checked out to be sure. You may have some other medical issue going on that requires treatment. ## I do. I took acutane for 7 years, never thought about the relation with acutane and chronic fatigue... We'd probably never know...

I am only two weeks into accutane (absorica) only on 20 mg. I am thinking of getting a tattoo within the next couple of days. is it safe to get one that soon into the treatment? ## Hello, Katie! How are you? You shouldn't have any tattoos done, while taking Accutane. It can interfere with healing and increase the risk of your developing severe scar tissue, which could mess up a tattoo. The FDA lists the other typical side effects of Accutane as possibly including nausea, joint pain, skin infection, skin rash, nosebleeds and blurred vision. Is there anything else I can help with?
