I take hydromorphone 4mg as needed but i wanted to know if it was safe taking two tablets? ## Hydromorphone, the active ingredient in Dilaudid is a very potent narcotic analgesic. That said, it is not advisable to increase your dosage without your doctor's approval. Doing so runs the risk of overdose and other serious side effects, such as organ damage. If your current dosage does not control your pain, you should speak to your doctor to explore your other options. Have you contacted them yet? ## Due to a near fatal accident I had in 2007, I have many chronic physical problems, some accident related and others such as severe arthritis, torn ligaments in both knees, disc problems bot sides of the back. The disc and knee problems are so painful that surgery is my option. I started out...

Small white pill with M on one side and 4 on the other ## Based on the description provided, I can confirm your pill to be Hydromorphone HCL (4 mg). Hydromorphone is used to relieve moderate to severe pain and severe, painful dry coughing. Inactive Ingredients: - Lactose Monohydrate - Magnesium Stearate - Cellulose, Microcrystalline - Stearic Acid Ref: DailyMed ## Can u tell me what forms the M-4mg hydromorphone come in? ## Due to the number of possible side effects, safety of administration and high potential for dependence/abuse, It definitely is not recommended; but based on my research it can be done. I personally don't support this idea, but as long as you understand the risks associated with this method of administration. ## Addiction is rare for chronic pain patients taking ...

I have taken hydrmorphone (4mg) 3 times a day for 3 yrs now. How long does does hydromorphone remain in your blood? ## Hi Warhorse1, When it comes to determining how long Hydromorphone remains in your blood, my research suggests that blood work done by a lab can only detect it for up to an "estimated" 24 hours or so (meaning there's probably negligible amounts or none at all by that point). Given Hydromorphone's relatively short half-life of about 2.5 hours, I wouldn't necessarily doubt those claims either. However, I'm sure these numbers could easily become cumulative over the course of 3 years and also based upon its frequency of use. Things like that may be a bit hard to factor into a time frame, but I hope this helps provide you with a ballpark figure. Happy ...

Is there anything that I can do about this, and is there one pain medicine that works better then another? I mean where on the pain chart does Dilaudid fall under. pls help so that I can ask my Dr. to help with the pain but sleep 14 hours during the day as well as 9 hours as night. ## take loratab 10 - watson 533 brand. they are strong and wont give you nightmares ## Rosanna, it's really going to be a matter of trial and error to find out what medication works for...

I understand that the DEA wants to cut down on the illegals, but what about the people that have legitimate reasons for using Oxycodone. These people will have to go through withdrawl, and be in unbearable pain. I know that there is something that can be done for us that have serious lower back pain, and other issues. If this is the case have the DEA, pull the persons medical records and check their history. I moved from OHIO, to Florida due to my injuries, now I have to deal with this. Need HELP for the legitimate people who are suffering. I only take the 10mg, but it seems to work for now. I was prescribed Dilaudid 2mg every 6 hours as needed for pain after being in the hospital for 5 days getting it through an IV every 2 hours as needed.... The pills I was prescribed were 4mg and I cut them in half.... Am I at serious risk if I take a whole pill for severe pain??? I am embarassed to ask my doctor in fear that he will think I am an addict trying to get a cheap high. This is not the case however. I actually am not a fan of taking pills at all, not even tylenol. The pain is almost unbearable. What do I do??? ## 4mgs is not a dangerous dose, though it is really strong and if you aren't used to taking medications, it will probably hit you very hard and you'll experience more of the side effects. Since it is a potent narcotic, they can include: nausea, drowsiness, dizz...

I have posted before about these meds which are the most effective rescue meds available (though not here in the UK) from my OxyContin, which only lasts a maximum of six hours and not the 12 as stated on the box, so need up to three rescue dosages of a suitable 4-hour action analgesic daily. First, can anybody tell me if the much cheaper TEVA US generic oxymorphone is up to the quality standard of the excellent Endo IR OPANA 10mg (and occasionally I need 5mg tablets as well)? What is the best value for money brand of hydromorphone IR high dosage (4mg and 8mg)? I know that the original Abbott/Purdue DILAUDID is by far best, but I hear good things about Ethex and Mallinckrodt's generics. Mallinckrodt also tend to be a lot cheaper than most generic opioids. My UA at the my pain management Doctor's office came up positive for Oxycontin, but I am prescribed Hydromorphone 4mg x 3 & Hydrocodone 10/325mg x 4 - why is that? ## Hello, Marie! How are you? Unless they use an actual certified one, which most don't due to the expense, then false alarms are actually very common. Most narcotics are distantly related and produce very similar metabolites in the body. They should be able to send your sample out for more precise lab work that would eliminate that issue. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi Marie, I hope that this is not cau...

My doctor told me to up my hydromorphone from 6 mg to 12 mg extended release. I was taking 6 mg extended every 12 hours with 4 mg enstant release every 4 hours. Now I'm taking 12mg extended release every 12 hours with 1mg enstant release every 4 hours. How is that upping my dose?? Wasn't the 6 mg extended release with the 4 mg enstant release every 4 hours more then I'm taking now ?? Please help. ## Hello, Steve! How are you? Yes, you are correct. Adding up the two 6mgs a day and the 6 4mg one comes out to 36mgs daily. But 12 mgs twice a day, plus 1mg 6 times a day is only 30mgs. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is hydromorphone the same as dilaudid I've. ## @Biglou, Hydromorphone is the generic name for Dilaudid (brand name), so yes, they are the same drug in that sense. However not all dosage forms are IV-based. For example, I've seen 4mg Dilaudid tablets in person and have also heard of patients taking 2 to 8mg tablets throughout this forum. One other thing to note is that they do make a brand called "Dilaudid-HP" (Hydromorphone Hydrochloride Inj.) which is marketed for intravenous use. Although, I have yet to find out if there is a generic form of the IV as well. Hope this helps answer your question! ## Regarding the post of Hydromorphine IV and dilaudulid: they are the same medication. I was on Dilaudid, (generic name) Exalgo ER 8 mg oral for chronic pain. Is It Safe To Take 20mg Of Percocet And 4mg Hydromorphone Together every 4 hrs? ## I'm sorry, but there is actually no 20mg Percocet tablet. Percocet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone and is only available with a maximum of 10mgs of the Oxycodone. Did you mean just a regular Oxycodone tablet, like the generic for Roxicodone, which is available in a 20mg dosage? Have these both been prescribed by the same doctor? Many times, different narcotics are prescribed together, to try to help someone get better control of pain. A lot of times a person may given a regular release of time released narcotic, along with an instant release or regular release, respectively, so one can help control their pain faster, while the other one has the chance to kick in. When using 2 narcotics together, ...

How many 4mg hydromorphone do I have to take to match what I was taking (morphine 60mg every 8hrs plus 15mg every 4hrs)? ## The truth is there really are no precise equivalencies between different pain medications. Trial and error is the only way to find a dosage of remotely similar efficacy for your unique body chemistry, tolerance and level of pain. The presence of various binders and fillers also complicate matters from tablet to tablet, in that they may affect bioavailability or how well your body absorbs the active ingredient(s) that these excipients are mixed with. The half-life of each respective drug should also be taken into consideration... Having said this, it's probably best that you work closely with a pain management specialist to determine what works and what doesn...
