How is the medication released. As simple was 6.67 per hour for 12 hours? ## Hi joe, According to a .gov article I found on the absorption of Oxycontin, the tablet itself is considered to be 'biphasic', which means that it is being dispensed in two different phases. The initial release is said to be approx. 40% of the active ingredient; which provides an onset of pain relieving effects within one hour for most patients. At this point, it is followed by a second more controlled release that carries out the remaining duration of effects. Page 1 in the link below offers more specific details on the pharmacokinetics of it: medsafe.govt.nz/profs/datasheet/o/OxyContintab.pdf I hope this helps!

Given OxyContin Extended Release 40mg per 12 hours in place of Methadone 10mg four times daily. Always given for pain by MD, 20 years now. Initial dose 20 yrs ago was 200 mg daily, got myself down to 120 mg daily, then down to 40mg (all of these in four doses, that took 3 years). I've been on OxyContin ER for one month along with Vicodin for breakthrough and Tramadol. Nothing really works. Can't sleep, eat or care for myself. The reason I'm off Methadone is because insurance said I would need to pay for it and I can't. Back with my parents and they are lost in this situation. On OxyContin I get relief for about 4 hours (after it takes close to an hour to start relief). They are the worst. I just want Methadone back but it has ruined and ruled my life. No marriage, no chi...

Im perscribed OC 40 mg. with the OP on the market the OC became the generic Oxycodone 40 mg. The question is there is Oxycontin 40 mg in capsules. Basicly is that equal to the Oxycodone 40 without the buffer in it ## There is no generic for Oxycontin, both the one with the OC and the one with the OP marking are made by Purdue, they just reformulated to help prevent abuse and discontinued manufacturing the original that had the OC marking. Oxycontin contains Oxycodone in a time released formulation. As to the other formulations, no, there is none available in a 40mg dosage. The immediate release capsule is only available in a 5mg dosage and the regular release tablets are only available in a maximum dosage of 30mgs. Is there anything else I can help with?

Round, Thick, Blue pill with capital 'S' on both sides. ## Sounds like a 25 mg Sominex, which is a light blue with a large S on each side of it. ## I need the company name that makes 40mg oxycontin but NOT PERDU PHARMA CAUSE THEY SUCKS ## At this time, there are no generic version of Oxycontin available. The only time released formulation approved in the U.S. is the original name brand manufactured by Purdue Pharma. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. And there is no generic with an S on both sides. Badback, what types of problems did you have with the name brand?

I think my my drug store gave me generic instead of my regular brand name of OxyContin and charged me the same price ## Hello, Poopoo! How are you? At this time, there is no generic available for it. There is Oxycontin, which should have an OP on one side and 40 on the other side of the tablet, which is manufactured by Purdue Pharma and there is Xartemis, which is manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, I believe there are couple others the FDA has approved, but they are not commonly available, yet. However, all are name brand medications, in time released formulations, with abuse deterrent features. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. What are the m...

Has anyone had experience with the Endo Brand Oxy? I usually take the Barnd Name only but they were out. It doesn't seem to be as strong, but of course the pharmacist says, They're all the same! ## Found Tablet with light green and oval 99 on top and 33 other side. ## The generic is a weaker form than the brand name. I'm not sure if maybe the time release is different or the pain mix is different but they are different I know a couple of people who take them and they all have the same thing to say. ## yes i get the endo and they are great ## I want to see the image of a brand name 40 mg OxyContin looks like I think they giving genric and what imprint is on it

Does it hurt the op 40's if they are cut in half? I don't like to take the whole pill at once. ## Since these are time released tablets, it isn't advisable that you cut them in half, because even with the new formulation, it could still result in the Oxycodone being released faster, so you get too much in your body, at once. There are lower dosages available, have you tried asking your doctor about just prescribing a lower one? ## That's not correct you can cut them ## Yeah you can. I seriously just took a 30mg op cut in half and it felt like 5 or six of my 10 mg (pink) oxycodone. I believe my tolerance is pretty high and my doctor has me on 8 pink 10's a day. So to answer your question you'd be fine taking half a 40. Don't listen to all the conservatives. Li...

I have been on Dilaudid for over 2 years now and I can't seem to get off of it. I'm under a doctor's care, but anyone who is on it knows it's very addicting! I think like everybody else, it's no good if you take it orally. It's only effective other ways. I always run out of Dilaudid before my prescription is ready to refill and recently I filled a script for oxycontin 40 mg to see if they could replace my 4 mg Dilaudid. However, I took 1/2 of a 40 mg. and felt nothing. An hour later I took my 4 mg Dilaudid and it seems to have worked. But they are very short lived, that's why for chronic pain they like to give these stupid time release pain pills. How many mg.'s does equal the same amount of Dilaudid? I also would like to know if anyone has ever tapered o...

We have lost our health insurance and now I have to pay retail for my pain med I have been on for 8 years. I nee to know which pharmacy has the best price on the cost to me. Also dose anyone know what the pharamacy pays for the Oxycontin 40 mg wholesale. ## I'm sorry, but there's really no central database listing the price any pharmacy charges, it varies depending on how much you are buying, by location and which pharmacy you use. Oxycontin is also a name brand, so it is still quite expensive. My suggestion would be that you talk to your doctor about using an alternative medication that would be much cheaper. There is a time released Morphine available, the name brand is MS Contin, but it's also available as a generic. You'd just need a higher dose of it to be equivalen...

I've been taking Oxycodone 30 mg for neuropathy several years. Recently I was hospitalized five weeks and put on OxyContin 40 mg plus Oxycodone 15 mg for breakthrough which worked like a charm. My problem being is that my 77 year old PCP won't prescribe a time-release and considers them dangerous. My question is this; how do I wean off this med using my leftover 30 and 15 mg Oxycodone until I can locate a new doctor who will prescribe the OxyContin? Plus I'll need to wean from my Oxycodone if I can't locate a doctor. I fear the withdrawal plus the horrible pain of Neuropathy returning full guns if I can't find a new doc. Is there an M on one side? ## Yes on some its just the manufacture. Who made the pill. ## 'M' located on one side of the pill usually refers to the brand name 'MS CONTIN' which is the same as ER or CR Morphine Sulfate. Each releases the dosage strength of the medication slowly over 12 hours, thus the reason 2 are typically prescribed per day (12 hrs apart). Medications such as this, Oxycontin, Duragesic patch, oral Dilaudid, etc are usually prescribed for those who suffer from and who will cotinue to live with chronic pain-
