Varenicline (trade name Chantix and Champix) is a medication used for smoking cessation.[4][6] Varenicline is also used for the treatment of dry eye disease.[5][7] The most common side-effects include nausea (feeling sick), insomnia (difficulty sleeping), abnormal dreams, headache and nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the nose and throat).[6] It is a high-affinity partial agonist for the α4β2 nicotinic ac...

I've been taking chantix for 6 weeks now. My quit date was on the 17th but I ran out of cigarettes on the 12th so I said to my self... today is a good day to quit... That was a month ago. Only side effects I got was the dreams, although I was not as happy as I usually am but my husband says that just means your like a normal person now...haha very funny. I am so happy that I am a non smoker when I read people quit after 2 weeks that scared me cause I didnt think it would work. But it did!! Little bit of nausea but its worth it not to smell anymore and to breath again. It says to take for 3 months and that is what im going to do... Thank so much Chantix ## Hello, Loni! How are you? Congratulations! I am so glad that this medication worked so well for you. Many people have had good lu...

I talked to my doctor about wanting to quit smoking and he prescribed Chantix, I will start in about 3 days. Can someone please be honest and tell me what I am about to start going through? I am a stay at home mom of a 3 year old, my husband is only home 1-2 days a week and I have heard this will be a mistake for me to take and that I will have horrible dreams, suicidal thoughts, ad much worst. Can someone tell me if me taking Chantix is a bad idea? I have not heard of many people who have not had bad results and hope this will have different answers. Thank you! ## I have been on chantix for a coupl of months now. I have been a smoker for twenty plus yrs. I had a few weird dreams. No nightmares. I think everyone is different. I'm down to 1 or 2 a day. I could of quit completly if I ...

I successfully did a month of Chantix thanks to the overwhelming support of my concerned girlfriend, friends and family. My lovely sweetheart told me she was less concerned about "kissing an ashtray" than just being able to having me around for a long time. This is my second time on Chantix. The first time I quit smoking for 7 months and I resumed after smoking just 1 cigarette, thinking I had it "under control". One month's worth this time: the insomnia was bad, the dreams were vivid, and my stomach hurt. Heightened road rage seems to be my constant companion now, but then I live in an area of concentrated rush hours over bridges and thru tunnels! Nothing can help that! Good luck to all. ## Hi Scott, Thanks a lot for sharing your experience on this medication! It se...

I have heard good and bad about this medication. I am on my 13d ay of Chantix and other then some weird dreams I'm doing pretty good. I haven't smoke for 4 days now. I did smoke after my first week but it tasted horrible and gave me a upset stomach. If you do smoke after the 7th day you may regret it! I don't take Chantix with any other meds so the side effects have been OK. Not wanting to kill myself or anyone else but it feels good not smoking and being able to breather after 20 years! ## Congratulations! I am very glad to hear that it is working so well for you. Do you have any other tips and tricks that helped you that you can post and share with our users?

I have been taking Chantix, never a thought of suicide, dreams were as usual (weird) and have been smoking less but have not completely stopped. I'm working on it with the Lords help/blessing, I too will be a success story. I have zero regrets about using this smoking cessation aid.

I have been on Chantix 3 weeks now and it has done absolutely nothing for my desire to quit smoking. I feel like I took $450.00 and threw it away in the garbage can. I am having dreams and feeling nauseous at times. The morning dose usually makes me vomit but just a little. So far I am not impressed with this overpriced medicine to quit smoking. ## I forgot to add that even though I am having a couple of side effects I am still taking it. ## Hello, Pam! How are you doing? I am very sorry that this medication isn't working for you. However, like any other drug, there are always some people that it won't work for and there is no way to know ahead of time who that might be. What else have you tried to quit smoking? Any other medications or cessation aids? When nothing else worked f...

I had smoked for almost 30 yrs and started Chanix two weeks ago. I haven't had the urge to smoke since I started, but my main concern is that I have a lot of chest pain. That will increase if I get winded or take a deep breath. Has anyone one else had this problem? ## Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Chest pain is NOT something you should ever just leave go and blame on a medication. this site is not medical professionals, so we cannot say for certain what may be causing it. It could be the medication or it could be something serious. Please consult your doctor immediately. Chantix contains the active ingredient Varenicline and is used to treat smoking addiction. I am 2mos smoke free after smoking at least a pack a day for 20 years. No one thought I'd ever quit....not even me! I know others who have had success with chantix but had terrible stomach pain side effects. I am fortunate to only have REALLY vivid dreams...not bad, just so real that at times I have to think if some of them really happened or not. When I started taking it, I smoked (dramatically less) for about 10 days.If you are still smoking more than a week after starting chantix, I believe the most important thing to do is actually take that plunge and not light up. You will find that on this drug, it's so easy to do! You really wont miss it. You just need to do it. I got another great benefit from it too, I have no desire to drink a beer. So I decided to quit that too. I us...

Today is the day I've chosen to quit.. cigs have already tasted awful. Side effects are minimal (little nausea if i don't eat and tired) Have had some vivid dreams but they have been interesting, so no problem there. I so want to quit, its a disgusting habit that will kill us all. I've tried other ways with no success. Giving it my all to be a proud quitter! I do take other meds that may contribute to the tiredness; Fentanyl, Baclofen, Neurontin and Celexa ## Hello, RSR! How are you doing? Did you manage to quit? Congratulations on realizing that you need to do so. Quitting is very, very tough. Some people never manage, but Chantix has helped a lot of people. ## I am on day 22 of Chantix. I chose to quit on day 8 as advised. I had some dizziness for a few days but I feel gre...

I bought the first doses about ten months ago, but didn't start treatment at that time. I finally started the treatment about a week and a half ago. I don't seem to experience as much of the side effects as others. Does anyone know if Chantix looses it's zip after that period of time? I don't think I've been having wild dreams, but I did notice I remember them better for the most part, so they seem more frequent. Dreams are wierd anyway, so I don't necessarily think Chantix has made mine any more strange. I don't seem to suffer from loss of sleep yet, although I don't sleep as much as most people anyway. I can feel that I am on a drug when I'm taking it. I don't eat breakfast, so I take the pill with about 4 to 6 oz. of milk in the morning. I feel...

Does a protein drink in the morning, before taking Zantex, be considered a meal? Don't want to get nauseous, but not a breakfast eater. ## Hello, Ken! How are you? That should be fine, unless your doctor or pharmacist see some problem with it. It usually doesn't have to be a full meal to help prevent the nausea, even a small snack or glass of milk may help. The FDA lists the other typical side effects of Chantix as possibly including dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, gas, headache and unusual dreams. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi,I used to smoke for 25 years. I tried many ways to stop it . I smoked 25-40 cig/day.I did not want to go to work and to friends and family in the past 12 months because I needed to smoke very much and nobody in my friend criss was smoking. 2 months ago I started Champix (the European version of Chantix). I stopped smoking. I have sometimes headache, vomiting feeling, stomach pain, weird dreams, insomnia and last month no menstruationand and etc but I am happy I am not dependent anymore. In the same time I do not need coffee any more .I guess many bad habits disappeared. Sometimes when I get angry I feel I better go to have a cigarette but, this feeling is after a minute over. I can control my self. Thanks Chantix ## Hello, Seles! How awesome!!! Way to go, that is something to be proud ...

this is my 2nd week on the chantix,i do mess up once or twice a day with a cigg, but i was smoking a pack a day.Anyway im on Paxil/Buspar for Panic disorder.i have been having weird dreams i feel like im in a funk, and all i wanna do is sleep, and sometimes i do get depressed.is this a problem with the mix of meds? please help ## Well, we aren't medical professionals, but yes, that could be what's causing it, the combination of the medications or any of them individually. They can all causes these types of side effects and taking all 3 at once can make them even worse. Have you talked to your doctor about this? It is a serious issue that should be dealt with.

I took Chantix and quit smoking years ago. Lately I started again. The Chantix wasn't working this time so I doubled the dosage, it is working perfectly now but I'm afraid the double dose will kill me!? My side effects are the exact opposite of what people describe. It seems to help my mood, I feel better, I'm doing really well and I'm not smoking no bad dreams none of that. Only the fear that the double dose is dangerous. Anyone have an opinion here? ## P.s. When I say I doubled the dose I don't mean I went from the starter pack to the blue ones, I'm taking 2 blue ones at the time, twice a day ## How are you doing? Have you experienced any problems? It would be best to inform your doctor that you've doubled up, so they can check for any possible problems. Ch...

How long does chantix stay in your system? Could it still be affecting me after 9 months? ## No! There are no medications that stay in your system for that long. The only way you would still be feeling effects was if it had caused some type of permanent body/organ damage, which I am sure would have been detected long ago. Chantix contains the active ingredient Varenicline,it is a stop smoking aid. Common side effects during use can include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and abnormal dreams. Did you have any other questions? ## You say that no medication can stay in your system that long. Hmmn, interesting concept. So no medicine/drug can stay in your system that long. So people who took a medicine/drug that affected their brain lets say back in the 60's or even possibly now of any sa...

Hello, I started chantix 16 days ago. im 30 and ive been a pretty heavy smoker for quite a few years. ive only decreased my smoking very little and im getting worried cause I honestly have all intentions on quitting. the only side effects I have are weird dreams, fatigue usually 15-20 mins after I take the med, it usually gives me a warm rush followed by the sleepyness and I get shakey and quite anxious. is there anyone who can reassure me to hang in there? lol I have 3 kids and they need me, especially smoke free. ## Are you also trying to stop smoking? The medication isn't going to do it all. Whatever your intentions are, it also requires real effort on your part. Have you talked to your doctor about it? ## Dont give up. I went way past my quit date. So what?!!! Each of us is diff...

I've been on Chantix for five days and down to 4 cigs a day. Will I ever quit smoking? I don't think about smoking as much as before. I have smoked for 35 years so I really hope this helps. Thank you Chantix. ## Hello, Nellie! How are you? It has successfully helped many people quit smoking. When is your quit date? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including abnormal dreams, nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, weight changes and trouble sleeping. And yes, it doesn't have to be taken with a full meal. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking Chantix for almost 6 weeks and not smoking for almost 5 weeks. My dreams are not nightmares, but are becoming more disarming and I don't want them anymore. Also, this past week, I started getting very agitated and angry, lashing out at my husband and even a stranger or two. I am aware of some of the horrific stories of long-term depression, etc. This is my second time with Chantix. The first time I did it the full 12 weeks, didn't smoke and got very depressed upon quitting Chantix and started smoking again. Depression went away. My doctor suggested only one month if I was not craving cigarettes, which I am not, and then wean mysel off the medication. I began three days ago going from 2 per day to 1 in the morning and a half at night. I am to the point now that...

I have been on chantix for a month with a few side effects like weird dreams but nothing to make me put the cigarettes down I smoke a pack day and still do. I don't insurance at 220.00 month not sure if its worth it. ## Hi, Shay! It is possible that it just isn't effective for you. Not every medication works for everyone that tries it. However, you are supposed to pick a quit date, which is normally your 8th day of taking the Chantix and try to stick with it and let the medication help you by preventing the cravings for them. Learn more Chantix details here. This medication has helped many people quit smoking, but it is not a miracle drug that will do everything by itself, you do have to make some effort to quit, as well. Have you tried not smoking/having a quit day?
