It sounds like you both might be experiencing cold sores, according to the symptoms described by the NIH, that is usually what causes blisters on your lips, or around your mouth area. They are due to a herpes simplex virus and no, they are not the same as genital herpes, that's a different form of the virus. They tend to occur more frequently, when your lips may be more dry and chapped.
However, if that is the case, no this antibiotic will not help. But there is an antiviral medication that you can ask your doctor about prescribing that can help prevent them. It is called Acyclovir, so you may want to ask about it.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain.
