Y Mscontin 100mg And 60mg Rx And Dilaudid 8mg Rx
UpdatedI've been prescribed to these meds for almost 3 years now. I have been taking Ms Contin for almost 7 years. In the past 4 months or so I have noticed my pain becoming significantly worse and also my Ms Contin tablets weighing less than they used to as well as tasting like salt. I take the brand name Ms Contin 100mg and 60mg from Purdue Pharma L.P. and I always have. I take brand of practically every medication I'm prescribed to, including Duragesic 100mcg and Dilaudid 8mg. I am not very happy I am back on Dilaudid again, as I was on it prior to moving around here and was taking over 2x the dose I currently am along with Actiq 1200 and 1600mcg and never found the Dilaudid to work well on my pain. The Actiq did, but only for up to an hour max. I actually asked to be taken off Actiq and Dilaudid and my doctor (where I used to live) found that Roxicodone worked the best. I was on 2 30mg Roxicodone 4/day as well as 2 MSIR 30mg 4x/day. Later the MSIR got changed to 2 Opana IR 10mg 4x/day. I NEVER got as much pain relief from any opiate than I did from Roxicodone (oxycodone IR). Then I move here & the 1st Dr. I saw tried to cut my meds by over 70% in ONE day! I found the Dr. I have now and told him what I was actually able to cut myself down to. Since then he's been prescribing me 1 Ms Contin 100mg (brand) 3x/day, 1 Ms Contin 60mg (brand) 3x/day, 1 Duragesic 100mcg (brand) every 48hrs, and 1 Dilaudid 8mg (brand) 4x/day. This has been a HUGE reduction for me and I was already reducing my meds w/the doctors I was seeing where I lived b/f, but something around where I live now is making it almost impossible to get proper pain management treatment.
The BIGGEST problem I have currently is: I've been filling my brand 100mg and 60mg Ms Contin at Walgreens and over the past 4 months or so I have been noticing more tablets that don't have as dark of a color to them, some don't seem to have as deep of an imprint on them (i.e 100 PF), but by FAR the biggest change is the fact they haven't been relieving my pain as well, they weigh significantly less than identical ones I've had b/f, and they TASTE like salt! If I just put one in my mouth and let it sit there until the gray (100mg) or orange (60mg colored coating wears off I get a BLAST of a salty taste and I have NEVER b/f ever tasted an Ms Contin tablet like this & I have been on the 100mg tablets for nearly 7yrs! The integrity of the tablets are also another factor. When I let them sit in my mouth & I taste that horrific salty taste I've also noticed they're falling apart/crumbling!
Then all of the sudden my Dilaudid 8mg (brand) tablets are also tasting salty!
I can't figure out what is going on! I always have extras in case of emergencies and I was supposed to fill all these Rx's on 5/26/14, but I haven't due to these issues. My doctor is out of town and I am not going to fill another batch of Rx's that are feeling useless and honestly, fake.
My concern is that it could very well be my parents. They HATE the fact I am on ANY narcotics and actually think they know about medicine. They don't even understand my injuries, how painful they are, and they don't really care either. They blame me for their financial problems b/c of my injuries and cost of medications. They say "I hate you" to me. My mom has said "I don't think I have the ability to be a parent to handicapped kid" and they treat me like garbage. They refuse to do any research, listen to anything I have to say or anything that concerns me, and they're trying to make me look "psychotic" b/c I am on these medications.
I am honestly wondering though (b/c I have gone & picked up my meds w/o them), has ANYONE had a similar experience regarding the Ms Contin and/or the Dilaudid? I am in the greater Chicagoland area, so if anyone has received "bad" Ms Contin or Dilaudid (especially from Walgreens and/or in the Chicago region) I would be very interested in hearing your story!
If anyone anywhere in the US has had a similar experience regarding those medications (filled legally), I'd greatly appreciate to hear from you!
Thank you to ALL and I wish my fellow Chronic Pain Patients the very best!

Hello, Ziggy! How are you? I am very sorry about all of the issues that you're having.
I cannot comment on the taste, because they are supposed to be swallowed whole.
As to their not being as effective, you may have just developed a tolerance to this dosage. It is normal for that to happen, after you've been taking it for a long time.
Another thing that could be altering the effectiveness is if you're defeating their being time released, so you get the medication all at once and it also wears off faster, rather than gradually.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
When will your doctor be back for a consult?
