The newer pill is newer for a reason; they are just improving their manufacturing process it sounds like. The same can be said for a computer harddrive (not that I'm trying to compare a computer to a pill), but when they first came out with them they were huge and had even less memory than the smaller one's today. It all comes down to using more efficient manufacturing procedures. There will always be new advances in technology and in pharmaceutical drugs alike that make things smaller than their predecessor while holding the same amount of material or more.
You can expect to see more changes like this in the near future or even now with other drugs, as the pharmaceutical industry is thriving in today's market with everyone relying on medication to get by.
