Xarelto Fluid Retention (Page 7)

I had to take Xarelto due to two sinus venous thrombosis in my head. 8 weeks of heparin injections showed no side effects. But with the first day of taking Xarelto my body reacted by retaining water. Within the first three weeks I gained 24.46 lb hill exercising 5 times a week and eating as I always did. After retaining more and more water I stopped taking it after three months. I started with a weight of 120 lb at a height of 5''8 and now I weigh 157 lb. I have to ad that I started taking it in the middle of March and stopped taking it at the end of June. I was not able to loose any water/weight. I eat less than I always did before even while I exercise. All doctors couldn't find the one thing that changed through Xarelto. Has anybody ever experienced something like this while taking Xarelto??
Thx. I've lost 25 lbs as of today. Taking to my cadiogoist about a different med for my A Fibs.
Hey for all who are following this thread hoping for a breakthrough I don't have one as yet but I have been doing 3 new things for the last 8 days in addition to everything else. 1. I started taking b complex 100 solgar brand, 1 tbl spoon raw organic apple cider vin in water at night b4 bed (its supposed to stimulate the lymphatic system & detoxify the blood) & putting my legs up a wall for 15 min -night to attempt to drain the fluid from my legs so that it can be processed. (Also a lymphatic stimulator) I am optimistic about these new things. I hope they will begin to kickstart movement for all who read this. Good luck to all.
Lou... Send like you were lucky enough to not have the change become permanent.. Hope you find something without harsh
side effects to control your a fib
I've been taking Xarelto since I developed A Fib in Feb. I have gain weight steadly since then. 2 mos ago I developed stomach problems from Xarelto and they took me off of it. In one month i lost 15lbs. without even trying and I'm up to 22 lbs lost. I have no intention of getting back on it.
I filed with FDA the other day. Did you get any answers from all your testing?
In addition to keeping my calories under 1000/day & jogging I have also been sitting in a sauna 30 min/day & getting weekly professional massages. I have filed adverse event claims with Xarelto & jansen pharmaceuticals which is the company who manufactures Xarelto. If enough of us come forward something will have to be done.
I am going to try self lymph massage on my abdomen and legs to see if that stimulates the lymph system to get rid of this excess fluid... We shall see
I'm experiencing another possible symptom caused by stopping Xarelto, in addition to fluid retention/weight gain. I stopped taking it in mid-Sept. Since about 4 weeks ago, I have been plagued by repeated superficial clots in one leg. I haven't had clots like this for 20 years and only when I was training for a marathon & flying a lot. I hesitate to start a diet (with increased Vit K) until things stabilize. I've been taking 6-8 325mg aspirin/day to help with minimal success. Thoughts?
Let us know if your doc finds anything... Glad you have one that doesn't think you are nuts and is taking you seriously about this...
Hello everyone. I went to my dr who I trust & expressed my concerns about the water retention & massive weight gain (30 lbs in 3 months!) from Xarelto. He sent me for blood work... lots of it. Awaiting results. He also scheduled me for a Doppler sonogram for my leg supposedly it will show the Amt of water in my body & if it is isolated. I am going next week. I also had an epiphany today & was wondering if anyone has tried giving blood. Since red blood cells regenerate when you give blood maybe we need to flush some out to make our body replace with some new ones. I know they recommend it for people with thick blood. Just an idea. Think I will try it. I'll try anything at this point. Please if anyone happens to try something that works to get back to normal please share! We're all in this together.
Hi. Still taking Bromalain, turmeric and a good probiotic. Some of the pain is gone in my feet, but they still hurt, and my stomach still looks and feels like i'm eight months pregnant. I also can't lose the 20 lbs I gained. I work out 5 days a week, and eat healthy. It's very scary and discouraging. I would join any litigation. I keep hoping it will eventually get better...
Ok so still on TUMERIC every day in addition to the walking, working out & sauna. It seems the only real difference I have seen is in my ankles. My thighs, and stomach are still presenting with a dimpled appearance and have not had any difference in my weight. I was so optimistic there for a few days...it has been over 3 months since I have been off this poison XERELTO. I have never dealt with any symptoms like these before so in my heart I know Xarelto has to be the only cause. I am filing an "adverse event" with the FDA and will also consider consulting with a lawyer. The possibility of these PERMANENT strange side effects we are all dealing with were NEVER mentioned to us by our doctors or information given to us by the manufacturer or drug store. I for one would have never taken this drug had I been told if these possibilities. I have always been healthy and extremely fit. These possible irreversible side effects must be acknowledged so that others will not have to go through what we have been suffering with after taking this horrible drug.
Lynda... How long were you on it before you quit taking it?
When I was on Xeralto, I would go to bed but couldn't go to sleep because I was starving and had to get up and eat. This never happened to me before I started on it, and stopped when I finally convinced my doctor to take me off it. I was on Coumadin before the doctor put me on Xeralto. Never had that nighttime hunger on Coumadin.
Have any of you noticed anything pointing to problems with blood sugar since or during xarelto? I don't normally have problems at all but seem to be getting shaky or dizzy/faint since I have been on it also. Then eating something helps stabilize me.
Supermommy you are right on point! I have filed an “Adverse Event” with the FDA and the manufacturing company Janssen Pharmaceuticals (Johnson & Johnson subsidiary). I’ve received no reply from either to date. I also contacted a legal firm in DC that was conducting legal cases with regard to Xarelto, but most of their clients had fatal or near-fatal bleeding episodes, so they declined to represent my case. If more of us tell our story we may get either the FDA or a legal firm to take our case.
I work in the medical field but this is not my area of expertise – we need a study done to evaluate what is happening to us with this drug!
Supermommy...i would be with you if the lawyer wants to handler a legal case... Just as bad as the water weight is the pain of it stretching everything across the top of my hips... Feels like it is just ripping the skin and muscles in there and any pants on the area is very aggravating...i pray the tumeric works.
Caveman I'm replying to you specifically b/c I noticed you too came to the same conclusion I did about the protein. I was on XERELTO for 3 mo for afib & I immediately started w/the same symptoms as everyone. The weird & oddly displaced water weight. It has been exactly 3 months today that I have been off of it & the water is still with me although 3 weeks ago I started taking 1/4 tsp of TUMERIC in my shake every day. I also have been going into a sauna every day for 30 min. These two things have started to alleviate some of the water b/c I can finally see my medial ankle bone again. I jog, eat right & fast as well. I am actually thinking about visiting a lawyer soon if this continues. I want to also state that b4 XERELTO I had a flat muscular stomach & muscular definition. Had I known that this might be permenant I would have NEVER in my right mind have taken this drug! Something must be done!!! This weird symptom is not acknowledged by any dr!!!
Trying the tumeric as soon as I get home...i stopped xarelto the beginning of October and did shed about 5 of the 20+ pounds but that is attributed to a spinal injection I got on Halloween... After that I peed myself silly for about 5 days... So I know it is all fluid.
I will try the Tumeric starting tomorrow. Unfortunately, it has been nearly 2 months since stopping Xarelto & my abdomen is still misshapen and bloated looking. My weight has remained the same as has my appetite (which is a lot lower than it had been before Xarelto). The weight gain & then it not coming off when I stopped the prescription is so discouraging...
