Xarelto And Hemorrhoids

I suffer from Afib and have had six procedures in the last year from blood clots in my legs. I was on warfarin for awhile and during one leg surgery my INR was 4.8 and I still developed more clots in both legs. I've had six procedures to clean out these clots. I was also on metoprolol and diltazem both for Afib and finally one cardiologist took me off the metoprolol and it seemed to have stopped the clots. I have grafts, stents in both legs and an artificial artery in my right leg. I've had hemorrhoids for awhile but never bled for over a day or two when constipated. I was also on Plavix but have stopped due to hemorrhoidal bleeding. My doctor didn't object. After drinking alcohol about one week ago I started bleeding from the rectum. It was heavy for awhile even dripping into the commode when passing gas but has since subsided to spotting when wiping. I would like to stop the xarelto for a day or two to see if this would clear up. Would it be safe to do so. I'm afraid if I tell my VA doctor they will put me back on warfarin. My last leg procedure was March of this year and although I still have some trouble walking (I have to stop often to rest) I feel I am getting better, I walk generally one mile a day in addition to my daily routine. I have also recently started experiencing shortness of breath although I thought this may be due to my Afib. Please advise if I can stop the xarelto for a day or two to see if my hemorrhoids clear up. I was having no problem having two or three glasses of wine, the problem started after drinking heavily one night.

Hello, Ponystar! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having.

Alcohol can cause blood thinning, so you could have caused this problem yourself.

Only your doctor can approve your taking a break from the Xarelto, so you really do need to consult them.

How much did you drink that night?

The FDA lists the typical side effects of Xarelto as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, back pain, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising.
