Withdrawals From Methadone 120 Mg Long Term Use

I was on 120 mg of methadone for 8 years straight with no relapse, so I decided to quit it. I got down to 110mg and had the weekend take home so i have been taking half of a half of 5mg and now I'm out. That was 1 week ago and yesterday when i ran out of the 5 mg I started to feel sick. I don't want to go on suboxone or subutex. I was told a doctor could prescribe Adderall for focus and Xanax for stress but I can't seem to find a doctor who will help. I've had a seizure/panic attack in my sleep cause the dream was soooo vivid.... I refuse to go to inpatient treatment of any kind I live in Benton TN in the middle of 60 acres and my license is suspended so i could no longer go to methadone clinic. I'm worried because it's just me, my husband, and 3 kids out here. The nearst neighbor is 4 miles in both directions. Any advice appreciated!

Hi Jen,

Sorry to hear about your situation. Have you ever considered looking into kratom for opioid withdrawal? The following article by the US National Institute of Health, titled "Self-treatment of opioid withdrawal using kratom (Mitragynia speciosa korth)" seems clinically significant and I think is something that may be worth further investigation:

"The predominant alkaloid of kratom, mitragynine, binds mu- and kappa-opioid receptors, but has additional receptor affinities that might augment its effectiveness at mitigating opioid withdrawal."

I'd also recommend running a search for "methadone withdrawal" here on MedsChat and browsing through some of the related threads on this topic. This way you can get a better idea of what others have already done or are currently doing to circumvent withdrawals.

Go back to the clinic and have them detox you properly. you will not get well this way.

Most people taper off methadone slowly, which is the most successful way. Trying to taper off methadone at fast rate is pretty much like going cold turkey especially when you're at a high dose.

I've weaned myself down to 1.25mg of Methadone a day. I just take a 1/4 of a 5mg tab. It's a long process but worth the wait.

I am completely free off all opioids at this time. After several weeks of 1.25mg/day I just stopped taking it and....drumroll... No Withdrawals At All! I took a sleeping pill, provided by my PM Dr. and that was all she wrote. I have been sweating my ass off for the past 7-8 years. I mean sweating profusely for no reason. It hospitalized me 3 times, sweating like a cow. I've been taking 2 different medications to keep me from sweating about 80% of the time. Well, all that sweating Bulls*** ended the day that I was set free of Methadone... I got rid of 3 medications in 1 day.

I used to sweat too the first couple years I was on it because I was overweight, not eating healthy, and I was on a higher dose. When I lost all the weight and lowered my dose to about 60mgs the sweating stopped.
