Will Percocet Be In Baby's System When I Deliver

I've been prescribed 3 10mg Percocet over the last 2 days for pain & am 32 1/2 weeks pregnant. Will this be in the baby's system when I deliver, if I have her in the next 3 weeks or so?? Also, is she at risk in any way from my medication?

Whether or not it is in the baby's system will depend on when you deliver, the more time that passes the less chance of that being a worry. However, it would be best to make sure your ObGyn knows that it was prescribed for you, so they can watch for any possible issues.

The FDA lists this medication as being in pregnancy category C, which means there is no definitive evidence of risk, but the possibility also can't be ruled out.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

If you are concerned about it showing up in the baby's system, if they do a drug panel be sure and take your prescription with you to the hospital.
