Will Never Take This Again!
UpdatedI suffer from MS and was experiencing a relapse. The advice was to take 5 days methylprednisolene. After first dose my face started puffing up and became bright red. Continued as I had had been having so much back pain and other MS symptoms. Thought that this was the lesser of 2 evils and would persevere. The course finished on Friday. Had very bad Saturday night. Really hot, vivid dreams and could not sleep and itched like crazy. When I got up on Sunday morning I noticed a spot on my chin. When I looked in good light I saw that my lower face was absolutely covered in spots. Pimples have erupted all over my chin and face and my scalp is really sore as there are bumps/spots all over andI can't stop itching. My ears are itching, but very sore as I have bumps/pimples in them as well. I couldn't understand what had happened to me. I read the possible side effects - something which I only do if I notice any reaction to taking meds.
Side effects experienced (from possible list given)
swelling - my face has puffed right up,
feeling short of breath; - bad
severe depression - bad
Blood when I passed stools
low potassium (extreme thirst, increased urination, leg discomfort, muscle
weakness or limp feeling); - bad so thirsty and keep feeling as if I am
going to pass out
sleep problems (insomnia), mood changes; - bad
dry skin - itching like crazy and really bad facial spots like acne have erupted
overnight. I am not a teenager, but 51! I normally have clear, smoothe skin which now looks like orange peel
increased sweating - woke up in night absolutely boiled
headache, dizziness - feel very giddy and unstable
nausea, stomach pain, bloating; - bad
Really bad mood - hate the world. All in all feel awful. Anyone know how long this med takes to get out of my system?
Thank you

Hello, Yaz! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems you've experienced.
As you've noted, the FDA does list those all as possible side effects, along with weight gain and fluid retention.
However, they should start to improve in a week or two, now that you've finished your course of treatment with it.
Are you on any other medications?
