Will Fentanyl Show Up In Drug Test As An Opiate (Top voted first)

Man the amount of people who have no clue what they are talking about yet spitting advice on it like they are an expert is bewildering. NO FENTANYL does not show up as an opiate on any test anywhere. In fact the only things that will show up as an opiate are morphine, codeine, and heroin and that is because heroin and morphine metabolize into morphine. Not even oxycodone or hydrocodone can be detected as an opiate they have to be specifically tested for as they metabolize differently, same with methadone, methadone has to be specifically tested for, it will not show up as anything but methadone. So unless the test you are taking is specifically testing for fentanyl then you will be fine. The question is whether or not the test you are taking is testing for fentanyl. I have yet to see a piss test that does test for it. Even if they sent it to a lab for testing they would have to tell the lab what to look for and that they specifically want to know if fentanyl metabolites are present. Anyone that tells you anything different from this has no clue what they are talking about or how opiates and their derivatives are detected after use. Drugs that have been taken are detected by looking for what they metabolize into, in the body and no two drugs metabolize the same unless they are from the same base as I explained in the beginning. Codeine, opium, heroin, and morphine are all detected as opiates because they are all made from opium. An opioid is not made from opium, they just have a somewhat similar structure and create the same effect by binding to the same receptors, but they in no way metabolize into the same metabolites which is essentially the by product of the chemical after the body has processed it. Elemental is right, no matter what they say FENTANYL is not tested for in the normal 10 or 12 panel urine tests, And for all the skeptics i test on a random basis every week on a 10 and 12 panel urine test and have never, and i repeat NEVER been positive for anything. i have tested this multiple ways including IV and just simply wearing the patch to a drug screen and still no positives..

Hi elemental, you seem to know what your talking about. And i think you could be alot of help to me (if thats not an issue) I just have a few standard questions. Im basically looking for something with an opiate-like feel that i can use while on probation. I know im tested for THC, Benzos, Opiates, Barbituates, and Amphets, Cocaine. Im on probation In NY, USA. Not sure how much you know about that. But please reply to this. thanks boss

You don't know what you're talking about. I take DOT/PHMSA drug screens, working for a midstream pipeline company. I take random all the time. Because of severe back pain, surgeries, pain management, I took 90mg/day immediate release oxycodone every day for 2 years. Never once showed up as an opiate on my drug screens. Now they've moved me to fentanyl 50/mcg/hr patch. Guess what? Still doesn't show up. These drug screens are no bulls***. They're sent to certified Government testing facilities and are extremely expensive for my company to comply with the mandates. I have nothing to hide and can't get in trouble if they did show up, but they never do.

I have to take a urine test tonight for a lab to test as i am in intensive pain - i sucked on a 25 mcg patch dry version 30 hrs ago for 3 hrs the test description didnt include fentanyl - ive been drinking water and peeing like crazy i dont want to go back to prison will it be safe to go take a urine will that little bit be out of my system now?

If the sample is sent to a lab, it will ABSOLUTELY show up. On instant tests, no, it will not show up. Same as suboxone or methadone, they don't show up on standard instant tests like at probation, or at a doctors office. But if your in outpatient where they seal your cup and send it to a lab, they can detect everything, anything, and how much.

Try kratom, im on probation and technically its legal for now. It works, and you can actually get off opiates and opioids while on probation. I do. best kind is maeng da.

I used to be addicted to fentanyl and the first time I ever took a drug test was in detox. I told the nurse that I was using oxy and that's why I was here and so I took a test to confirm that and when she told me my results she told me I didn't have any oxy in my system, in fact I didn't have anything in my system and I knew that was impossible because I knew I was using drugs and shocked when she said that. So I told her that I was using these green pills and explained what it looked like and she knew exactly what I was talking about and told me it was fentanyl and it was fake oxys it was the counterfeit ones I was taking. So she did another test on me it was one that could test for fentanyl and it was positive. For you to test for fentanyl you have to specifically ask for it or it wont show up anything on a test trust me. I was a fentanyl user and you always had to tell that you were wanting to test for fentanyl or it wont show up. Trust me cause I used to be addicted to the drug so I know what Im talking about. I've taken a lot of drug test I mean ALOT I repeat ALOT...ALOT..of testings and that's the truth. any questions?

Ive been on fentanyl 100 mcgs for 10 years n never diclosed this to any of my employers. It has NEVER shown up on any of my drug tests as n opiate or Id hav to show them my script. So pharmacist or not ur completely wrong on this one

Iv answered this myself it does not show up as Opium. What I can tell everyone is that they can find it if they want to, as a pain management patient I get test regularly some times piss sometimes DNA and as I'm not prescribed fentynal it came back on me. My doctor being a human tells me he don't think that's a good idea and that if it happens again he well have to refer me to rehab. If your not prescribed it don't do it. It's gotten hard anuf to find a pain management doctor don't blow what you have and just make it harder for REALPAIN Patient. And to let you know I'm real I'll use my real name

Hi, I Just Started 25 mg Fentanyl patch 1 every 2 days ....I'm worried because I just lost a pain doctor because I came out positive for COCAINE?? I was so pissed because there's no way I would jeopardize my medication. Everyone is right, they won't listen to us. THEY DROP US LIKE WE'RE DRUG ADDICTS.. So now im with a new doctor. I stopped all of those pain medications for the patch.. So your saying nothing should come out on my urine test now?? I take other medicine too. I'm just worrying a lot about it....

I got my information from a 12 panel drug test while wearing a Fentanyl pain patch. It only shows up as FENTANYL and only as such. The 12 panel drug test doesn't include Fentanyl. I suggest you do your homework. No need to be uptight..
I'll say wearing a pain patch during a urine test and passing it....is HOMEWORK.

I work in a Lab that tests for everything including alcohol metabolites.

No quick cup or "immunoassay" exists that will pick up fentanyl. The same needs to be analyzed by an LCMS to pick up the presence of fentanyl.

LCMS is a liquid chromatography mass spectrometer.

Fentanyl is commonly mixed with Heroin and sometimes our patients take straight fentanyl as to bypass testing positive for opiates on a quick cup.

If you are a pharmacist, you should be able to spell sometimes. As for all the drugs listed , your drug test will show something, regardless of how much.
My suggestion to everyone asking for help regarding their medications. ASK YOUR DOCTOR. After all , he is the one to answer your questions. Someone else can get you killed.

Im glad to come across someone on here who knows what they are talking about. Im very sick of people even trying to post there 2 sense knowledge they THINK they know. If anyone's not completely aware of the facts there should be something in their brain that says i don't honestly know, so im not going to post any bulls*** theories i have. Anyway good to know their are still those of us out there who know this stuff from years of experience.

The H u have been talking is probably fentanyl. I am an addict myself and the area I am from has a massive epidemic. This epidemic is miss understood because 90% of the H around is fentanyl. I specifically take Fentanyl because it is stronger. The way to tell is by tasting it, if it has a sweet candy taste it is fentanyl and if it has a medicine taste like Tylenol it is true heroin. To set all the comments straight Fentanyl has to be specifically tested for. It does not test as an opiate or oxy. My wife used to give me the 12 panel tests u buy from Walgreens and I always passed. I am in recovery now and go to a suboxone clinic and get lab tested, because I specifically told them I take fentanyl and they specifically test for it. My addiction started because of pain clinics where I used to receive the real oxycontins yrs ago, which does show up as oxy on a panel test. Because it's an extended release oxycodone. I saw somewhere here someone saw it doesn't show up, but that is untrue. If u are getting them through other means and they aren't showing up its because it is faked and they are fentanyl, which again does have to be tested for specifically. Not trying to dispute anyone, but as an addict u figure things out quick so u know what u can get away with and what u can't. I will say this in the area I am from doctors and clinics are actually testing for fentanyl now with the growing epidemic in the new England area. Overdoses are at a all time high and it's solely because of the fentanyl dope. Now don't misunderstand this is not heroin mixed with fentanyl. This is strictly fentanyl, usually looks white.

I know this is an older post but this misinformation by people saying their pharmacy techs, lab techs and what not just astounds me. You can be a Doctor, a D.E.A. Agent, or the King of Siam for that matter, it doesn't mean your right. First of all anyone saying oxycodone or fentanyl will show up as an opiate is just wrong, because, news flash, oxy and fentanyl aren't opiates, there opiodes. Now, that being said, more basic tests usually do test for opiates (heroin, morphine, etc.). Larger panel tests usually test for both opiates and opiodes. Some opiodes like suboxone (bupenorphine) and fentanyl require a specialized test, and will not show up on any standard 5, or even 10 panel tests. Hope this helps, I believe everything I've stated to be correct based on what I've read and understand, but feel free to double check.
