Will Fentanyl Show Up In Drug Test As An Opiate (Page 4) (Top voted first)

Updated

Man the amount of people who have no clue what they are talking about yet spitting advice on it like they are an expert is bewildering. NO FENTANYL does not show up as an opiate on any test anywhere. In fact the only things that will show up as an opiate are morphine, codeine, and heroin and that is because heroin and morphine metabolize into morphine. Not even oxycodone or hydrocodone can be detected as an opiate they have to be specifically tested for as they metabolize differently, same with methadone, methadone has to be specifically tested for, it will not show up as anything but methadone. So unless the test you are taking is specifically testing for fentanyl then you will be fine. The question is whether or not the test you are taking is testing for fentanyl. I have yet to see a piss test that does test for it. Even if they sent it to a lab for testing they would have to tell the lab what to look for and that they specifically want to know if fentanyl metabolites are present. Anyone that tells you anything different from this has no clue what they are talking about or how opiates and their derivatives are detected after use. Drugs that have been taken are detected by looking for what they metabolize into, in the body and no two drugs metabolize the same unless they are from the same base as I explained in the beginning. Codeine, opium, heroin, and morphine are all detected as opiates because they are all made from opium. An opioid is not made from opium, they just have a somewhat similar structure and create the same effect by binding to the same receptors, but they in no way metabolize into the same metabolites which is essentially the by product of the chemical after the body has processed it. Hope this helps anyone who needs accurate information not just the random ramblings of nonsense.

Everyone who says fentanyl will not show up unless SPECIFICALLY tested for is right. All these "drug testing employees," "doctors," "LEOs," etc. who think otherwise need to go back to school, and not speak on subjects they know nothing about. Drug tests test for metabolites, and fent does not metabolize into anything that opiates and other opioids (except analogues of fent) metabolize into. It must be specifically tested for. (Everyone should know that most law enforcement are completely ignorant about laws, drugs, the world, etc... And there are no educational requirements for working in a drug lab, so saying you do means absolutely nothing. As for the doctors, you just make me sad about our educational system : (

Finally real info. To test for fentanyl in urine is very expensive. No one should be using this drug without a script as it is so much more powerful than opiates. The half life is also a lot longer than the other opiates.

I don't understand why everyone keeps saying hydrocodone does not show up as an opiate in a urinalysis! I was going to a methadone clinic daily and I had teeth pulled on 2 different occasions and was prescribed hydrocodone both times... The 2 preceding urinalysis' I had both came back positive for opiates! So for everyone that thinks they are experts in the medical field and are saying otherwise need their license to practice medicine revoked! Then go back to school and try passing without cheating!

There's a difference between testing for an "opiate" and an "opioid". The only things that test positive for an opiate are heroin, morphine, and codeine. Oxycodone and Hydrocodone test positive as an opioid, as well as Fentanyl I believe.

Now I know you're mistaken. Hydrocodone does not contain codeine. Look it up. It is it's own thing and not derived from opium. Sounds like you had Tylenol 3's. Hydro does contain acetaminophen but no codeine, just hydrocodone. Not the same, I promise, do a Google search if you won't take my word for it.

Probation and parole actually have a panel for buprenorphine aka suboxone now. They started specifically testing for it. Its abuse rate is lower but more than anything in think because opiate/opiod addicts andaandany heroin users were using it to detox and clean out until they UA then switching back to using again.

Talk about NOT knowing what people are talking about... Try going to a pain doctor and tell me that s*** doesn't show up! They actually send it to a lab that analyzes everything! Wish I could insert my last panel done.. but not sure how. And ALL drugs show up!! Even a damn Tylenol! It's crazy.

I can only speak to my experience. I am on 50mcg fentanyl patch. My doc does a 10 panel stick test at every visit, and I always test negative for oxy and opiates, and there is no test for fentanyl in that. Once every 3-6 months he does a lab test, i.e. I pee in a cup and they send it away to a lab. When they do that, they are testing for ethanol because that is how fentanyl metabolites so they know it's in my system. Now, I am holding a 10 panel test, same brand used at my docs, in my hand right now, checking to see if the oxy I took is out of my system before my appointment next week. There are 2 slots. One says OPI (opiates) and one says OXY (oxycodone) the test shows I am positive for OXY, but negative for OPI. Hope this helps!

You are wrong actually. Fentanyl is a considered a synthetic opiate actually and to detect it there has to be a test designated just for it. It does not come up as a opiate because it is a synthetic opiate. Come on big pharma know your stuff

You have no idea what you are talking about. Even something like oxycodone can be tested for. Probation methadone clinics pain management clinics do not tell you what they test for so do not be fooled by this person he does not know what he is talking about. A lot of these drugs are synthetic opiates but they still will show up as an opiate. In a lab can also pull a drug apart and tell you what it metabolized into and what it started at. I'm not giving out advice I'm just hoping and no one listened is person because you will be busted do not take a chance with your freedom or your pain meds

I just did a hair follicle test and have been on the 75mcg Fentanyl patch for 3 years. It did not show up as an opiate on the 12 panel hair follicle drug test.

I am on 50mcg fentanyl and 5mg 4 times a day oxycodone. The test my doc gives me has 10 panels. One says OXY and one says OPI. When tested, the OXY always has a pink + sign, but the OPI never does. When my doc wants to check to make sure I have the Fentanyl in my system, he sends that away. He says the only way to test for its presence is to see if there is Ethanol in my system as that's what Fentanyl metabolizes into. But, the only sure way to make sure you pass your test, is to only take what is prescribed to you. Fentanyl is a strong med, if you need more than that and something for break through pain, then you have a bigger problem than just pain, and should seek help for addiction.

Suboxone and fentanyl DOES show up on urine test.. Suboxone shows as burphorine fentanyl abd oxycodone show as OPIATES.. Trust me.. The courts showed it and so has the clinic.. I took a oxycodone 30mg and pissed for the doctors maybe 11 hours later and it never showed.. It takes a longer than a few hours for oxycodone to show on urine screen.. I couldn't believe it didn't.. But it didn't..

Re: Annie (# 249) Expand Referenced Message

Ok, I am back here to give an update on my question that was, "Does fentanyl show up as an opiate on drug test?" I asked that question because I thought it had to show up as an opiate or an opioid. I am in pain management and had run out 3 days before my appointment. My husband had some fentanyl patches. He stopped using them so I used one to ward off withdrawal. I listened to the advice I found on here that it wouldn't show up, it had to test specifically for fentanyl. I got BUSTED big time! They knew exactly what I'd taken!. I still don't know what it shows up as but I do know this: If I am doing something I shouldn't and come on the internet for advice, don't be a FOOL! No one knows what they are talking about on here, not a doctor, not a pharmacist, NO ONE!!! One thing is for certain! You are going to get busted!

Any time you take meds from anyone other than a legit pharmacy, you run the risk of popping positive for drugs. Those pills given to you could've been stored in a container that had residue in it from other pills. If you aren't prescribed the medication, it's never a good idea to take it from someone else. I'm not judging you, just playing devils advocate & trying to be honest. Please be careful. Think of your kids.... What would happen to them if they lose you. No one can replace their mom

He has no idea what he is taking about. I am a pharmacist and all of the things mentioned (vicodin, seomtimes oxy, and fentanyl) show up as an opiate! Plus there is an extra test for oxycodone specifially, so they will know about that either way!

Maybe at your Dr's office but I can positively tell you it shows up at my Dr. I have to wait to get the results before I can leave the office and if it shows up anything that was not prescribed to me they wouldn't write out my scripts, they would quit me. I had to sign a paper to say I would not take any other pain meds from any other DR. except where I go to. I got a print out from my last urine test and here is what they tested me for. Ecstasy, Methadone, Methamphetamine, Opiates, Oxycodone, Phencyclidine, Antidepressants, Amphetamine, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepine, Cannabinoid, and Cocaine. Now this is a urine test only and it says if it's positive or negative.

Read man... We all discussed. End result. You're good. Only way it shows up is if they r testing specifically for fentanyl and they're not. They have their 12 panel test n fent isn't on there
