I had a UTI a week ago, I bought Uri-Kleer after two days of the infection, it didn't seem to work so the pharmacist gave me Ciprofloxacin 500mg. My partner and I had unprotected intercourse two days after using, now I'm afraid I might be pregnant. Is it possible that I am?

Just want to share my experience with Cipro for the sake of everybody or anybody who has been paranoid about the "INTERACTION OF CIPRO WITH BCP" ;) I've been taking Althea, a 21-cycle birth-control pill, combined low-dose oral contraceptive pill with antiandrogenic properties. Then I've got UTI and was prescribed with ciprofloxacin. The doctor said that this antibiotic is safe and will not lessen the effectiveness of my bcp. But I still have doubts so I made my own research and then I've read this study about cipro. The result of the study was "Ciprofloxacin does not appear to alter ovarian activity when co-administered with the low-dose oral contraceptive Marvelon. No evidence of pharmacokinetic interaction between the antibiotic and the contraceptive was detected." You can read the whole info here: popline.org/node/284490
But for the sake of my peace of mind, I still able to convince my boyfriend to wear condoms while taking cipro for 7 days, twice a day. I've finished taking cipro 3 days before taking my last 3 pills. And then on the 2nd day of my placebo week, we had unprotected intercourse. On the 6th day of my placebo week, I was VERY NERVOUS AND PARANOID, still waiting for my period. Then I'm starting to think for Plan B and other stuffs about being pregnant. Before lunch, I had spotting, then continuous bleeding. That was SUCH A RELIEF !!!!! I almost cried for joy :D

I recently started the 2-month inj. (on 20th Dec 2017). I now have a uti infection and been prescribed ciprofloxacin. Does this affect my birth control, and how long after I stopped the antibiotics can I have unprotected intercourse?

Yes, it can. This is a common problem with all antibiotics. With a UTI though, you could end up with a much more serious infection, possibly fatal, if you don't take it.
You need to take the antibiotic and just use other precautionary birth control measures until you are done with your course of treatment.

macrobid is actually okay. i got prescribed that and the doctor specifically told me that he prefers prescribing macrobid over other medication because it doesnt interfere with the BC pills.
I also got ciprofloxacin because i turned out to be allergic to macrobid. i asked the pharmacist if it affects bc pills and he said it says nothing about that but i should be careful regardless...
now i'm looking to see what google doctor says!

I have been on birth control for years with no problems. I took cipro for a week and *coincidentally* (or not?) I got pregnant. Having a hard time believing the two are not linked somehow, considering how vigilant I am with taking my BC.

Doc? I doubt it because if you were you would know that cipro is the worst pill antibiotic you can take. Cipro is poison it destroys lives!!!
PEOPLE PLEASE BEFORE YOU EVEN CONSIDER TAKING CIPRO....DO YOUR RESEARCH...I PROMISE YOU AFTER READING HORROR STORIES YOU WILL FLUSH THEM!

May 2013..IV in the hospital (cipro) a script to further the Antibiotic I only took 2 it is now October 1st and I'm still suffering cipro ruined my life!

I've been on the pill for almost a whole cycle (only 3 active pills left) and I also got implanon inserted 6 days ago which is effective after 7 days. I have also used antibiotic eyedrops about 4 or 5 times since starting the pill (only a couple of drops each times I used it) Last night I had sex without a condom bt he withdrew before he ejaculated.. and I was wondering if I would have been protected or not since the eyedrops are antibiotic..
I'm a little worried.

So my doctor prescribed me cipro for 7 days due to a possible bladder infection... When i started this i was at the end of my 2nd week of birth control pills entering the 3rd week... i am now done the antibiotics (as of 3 days ago) and in the 4th week(sugar pill)(3days in) ... my husband and i had unprotected sex and now we are worrying if their is a chance i could be pregnant ??
