Why Would Your Doctor Have To Stop Writing Perscriptions? (Top voted first)

Updated

I was going to the same doctor for 11 years. I went there back a few months ago and was told he could not write anymore opiate prescriptions. I have looked every where i could to find out what happened but nothing. Can someone tell me why?

While what BL said is a possibility, right now, it is most likely that the doctor hasn't done anything irresponsible, at all.

There were actually new regulations put in place this year that severely restrict what a general practice doctor can prescribe, why they can prescribe it, how much they can prescribe and how long they can prescribe it. There are very few exceptions that can be made, for instance one group of people they can still write controlled substance prescriptions for are those with intractable pain from cancer, but if you don't fall into such a group, then you'll have to see a pain management specialist to continue getting such medications.

Have you asked your doctor for a referral? That would probably be the easiest way to get in with a specialist and get the help you need.

Because the state took away his ability to write those rx's. This is done when the doctor has shown that he isn't able to prescribe responsibiley, when he has a substance abuse problem himself or when he is in trouble for now following the state and/or federal laws. If he is still practicing, chances are he didn't do anything illegal, just irresponsibley. Some state medical boards post the drs that have lost this priviledge along with the reason(s)
