Unfortunately, no! Due to the proliferation of abuse and diversion, it is now only manufactured by Purdue. Even when the ones on the market listed as being from Ethex are made by Purdue via the same formulation, they are just a licensed distributor.
There have been many complains about them not being as effective and causing odd side effects.
I wish I had a solution for you, however, since you don't want to switch medications, the only thing I can suggest is that you let both Purdue and the FDA know of the problems you are having with it. You can do so by calling the following numbers:
Purdue 888-726-7535
FDA 800-332-1088
Have you talked to your doctor about this problem, yet?

To whom it may concern, I have been on and off oxycontin for the last 8 years due to spinal tumors. I have tried other medications for pain but I allways end up being placed back on oxycontin because it worked for my pain, that is until now. I am currently on 80mg tablets, 2 tablets 3 times a day and I am in pain and sick and sleep more than or should I say stay in bed more than two thirds of the day. I can't live like this, feeling very depressed besides the pain and feeling sick. I feel very hopeless and don't like the thoughts I have been having lately. Unless you have severe chronic pain you cannot imagine waht it is like to live with this. To top all this off I hear Purdue changed the formula of the Oxycontin so they can keep thier patten. What country do we live in that allows pharmacutical companies to play God with people's lives just so they can make a buck. What protects us the users from this kind of greedy injustice. You can't even get generic oxycontin of course they say they changed it because of other reasons but why make a drug less effective unless your going to profit from it in some way. The drug passes through the digestive track in some cases whole intact others partcially dissolved. This is an improvement?
Bob, I am very sorry to read of the problems you are having. There are many posts on our site from users that arehaving similar problems with the new Oxycontin formulation. Many have stated that it doesn't work as well for pain and there are also complaints that it can cause unusual side effects.
However, Purdue did not change the formula to protect their patent. The formula was changed to help prevent abuse of the medication and it was approved by the U.S. FDA.
There have been many instances where people would crush the tablets, with the intent of snorting them or breaking them down for injection. Some people would also just chew them, to release all of the medication, at once. These practices are very dangerous and these new tablets have been designed to help prevent such practices.
If someone tries this with the new tablets, they basically turn into a gummy substance that retains its time released properties and can only be broken down with stomach acid.

Does anyone have any other comments or questions?
I recently asked my doctor why the Oxycodone had Acetaminophen in it because I wanted to avoid Tylenol type meds. I had shoulder surgery and did not want Tylenol. He said you can not find Oxycontin without being formulated with Tylenol. The manufacturer just does it and offers no other choice. I commented that it was not in the best interests of patients and he conceded my point but still had no other choice.
Al, in the U.S. and Canada, what your doctor said is not correct, there are several formulations of Oxycodone on the market that are not coupled with the Acetaminophen.
There is an instant release, which is available as a generic and the name brand OxyIR, a regular release available as a generic and the name brand Roxicodone and a time released that is only available as the brand name Oxycontin. None of these contain Acetaminophen.

Is there anything else I can help with?
Because of the taking away of the generic brands of ocycontin, now I get to use the public library computer to use the internet instead of my own in my home because I needed to cut my spending to afford the increase. Because it is no longer generic, it raised the tier catiglory of this drug on the insurance to a level II. Instead of costing a co-pay of $10 a month I get to pay $100.00 a month for my Oxycontin. I hope we have a mild winter, the utilities are next.
Thanks, I will take this to my MD and get my current script replaced with a non-Tylenol version.
get off the oxycontin and get the Fentanyl patch -you are not getting the right dose of medication.Just be careful went up and had to get it cut down.
I have finished with sometimes painful physical rehab of the shoulder so do not need pain meds.Thank you for the information.
What is difference between CR and OC oxycondin?
I have had the new 80 mg OxyContin and I have to tell you they seem to work but they make me nausus and now I came off because of the way I felt I will never take another OxyContin again I have been off for six weeks and still feel sick it's almost like there is glue in them like gluetin it causes stomach and intestinal problems I would suggest a different pain medication never had a problem with my stomach in my life until the OP came out from the first one I took anyone else have this problem.
