I get migraines once of twice a month and I take sumatriptan that makes it go away eveery single time. Most often I take a 25 mg tablet and that usually works for me since I weight about 110 pounds, this drug has fewer side affects than other triptans. Sometimes I have to take 50 mg dose, and when on my period I have migraines even two days in a row. When that happens and I take over 50 mg in two days I have a tendency to develop diarrhea and colitis, this is not serious but annoying, since I have this crampy pain in my abdomen. Even when I take only 25mg a day I have peculiar side effects like a strange taste in my mouth, I feel tastes and smells differently when I take the drug. I also experience a tingling in my nose and some sneezing, expecially when the drug starts kicking in and that is when I know that the pain is fading. I am drowsy, and sometimes I need to lie down and have a nap which will totally erase my migraine. I also experience thirst and increased urination, sometimes I also have some nausea but that may come from the migraine itself. In conclusion the worst side effect I have experienced is the crampy diarrhea, but over all the drug is very effective, and much more tollerable than other triptans I have tried over the years, it is by far the best on the market!

This tablet contains 50mgs of Sumatriptan, the active ingredient in Imitrex, used to treat migraines.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, thirst and diarrhea.
