Betaderm contains the active ingredient Betamethasone, which is a steroid class medication. That means that in the U.S., even in a topical cream, it can only be obtained from your pharmacy with a doctor's prescription.

There tend to be some serious risks associated with using them, such as fluid retention, elevated blood pressure and compromised immunity, so they are regulated here.
