They all contain the same active ingredient, but the inactive may be different from one manufacturer to another.
The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
However, there can be slight variations in the amount of the active ingredient from one generic to another, so some may have a little more than usual, which could explain why they made you ill.
