Hello, Bug! How are you?
Of course you can talk to your doctor about the problem, no one is going to be your advocate, except for you!
However, it would be a bad idea to try to ask for any specific medication, because most doctors will see that as being drug seeking behavior. It would be best to just discuss the issue with them and let them suggest a solution.
Is there anything else I can help with?
I wear a pain patch - duragesic to go with my dilaudid this way I only have to take the dilaudid for breakthrough pain. The pain patch goes right into your blood stream and you wear for a continuous 72 hours - much better than popping dilaudid all day long
Hi Bug! I have had severe, incurable chronic body-wide pain for 2 decades I take Dilaudid for breakthrough pain. My primary pain medication is Oxycontin and has been for many years, with no increase in dosage needed. However, don't try asking your doctor about this combination! They'll slap a "drug seeker" or "drug addict" label on you faster than you can imagine and, most likely, refuse to give you any pain medications from that point on. Verwon is right--if you know of someone who is legitimately using a medication for pain that they've found to be the only thing that helps so you decide to ask for THAT medication, they will decide (with no investigation or questioning) that you're obviously an addict who just wants to feel high! Pain patients are one of the most highly victimized groups in our society--victimized by doctors, the DEA, pharmacists, insurance companies, politicians who want to make it look like they're really tough on drugs--the list goes on. And all this in the name of "drug control," as though they're doing something noble. Meanwhile, the drug addicts who really do want to feel high go merrily on their way, getting their drugs illegally and easy as pie, while people in terrible pain suffer as a result. It's a terrible disgrace that is the fault of all the aforementioned "do-gooders" and all who have jumped on the drug control bandwagon without knowing what they're talking about.
Hi, I hope this helps, I have been on pain meds on a regular basis for 16 years. My pm Dr. prescribes me 8 mg diludid 4 times a day and also morphine 30 mg. er. ( ms contin ) so you can check with your Dr. about this combo. I was taking 8mg. Diludid 5 times daily and morph 60mg twice daily, 4 months ago, I'm being told, the Dr. had to reduce dosing. I have to manage on this. It's a good combination for me. Hopes this helps for you.
I'm still on the same dose, my pm Dr. gives me 8mg. diludid 4 times daily and 30 mg. er morphine twice daily. I was getting 60mg. morphine and felt much better, the DEA has got the doctors scared to write these types of meds so they lowered my morphine to the 30 mg. Tabs. My pain is bothering me a lot more since I got my dose lowered, I tried taking 2 of the 30mg.tabs and I got the relief I needed, but then I ran out to soon and was in trouble, this month, I'm going to ask my Dr. again to put me back on the 60mg. tabs. I pay $200 a month plus the cost of scripts to stay out of pain and have some what of a quality of life. So I'm hoping my Dr. will be understanding and write me the 60's again. I've been seeing this Dr. for sometime now, and always pass my UA's, so I'm hoping for the best...
Hi everyone, I'm glad to say, this months visit with my pm Dr. went well, he was very understanding, I ask in a not a drug seeking way, to raise my morphine dose back to the 60mg.tabs, when I first went in, he ask all the usual questions, when he brought up my meds. I just said "I'd like to talk to you about that when you're finished with your paperwork" then in about 10 minutes later, the topic of my meds. came up again, and I told him the 30mg. tables weren't working, and my quality of life was not good. He said he'd have no problem with that and I got my dose back. Now 60mg.morphine twice daily and diludid 8mg 4 times daily. I was on 5 times on diludid, but thought asking for one at a time was a good idea. Good luck to you all..
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Actually I would be honest with your doc and tell him that you know everything there is to know relative to analgesics (read Gilman & Goodman's "The Pharmacological Basis for Therapeutics" first) but don't act like a know-it-all. Of course defer to his final judgment but you CAN "steer" him in the right direction. What's so bad about drug-seeking if you are honest about your motive? Which is to be able to control your pain.
Re: Belinda (# 3)
Well said Verwon. That is exactly the problem in the USA and under Trump the DEA is going to have even more power to ruin lives! You won't find ANY of this ridiculous subterfuge and misuse of power ANYwhere in Europe. Thank God those god-awful chain big-box pharmacies haven't become a trend yet. A pox on you, DEA!
From horrible experience- We are all stuck! You are fortunate to be getting anything the way I see it! Not that its your fault; we have no one advocating for us! Our doctors are being treated like drug dealers! Why else is the DEA visiting them at their office?
