A skin rash can actually be a normal side effect of this antibiotic, as reported by the U.S. FDA. Unless it is accompanied with hives, itching and/or swelling, it is nothing to worry about and will eventually go away on its own. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and diarrhea.
As to what the nurse said, no, that is not accurate. Many people do take it, in a low dose, for prolonged periods of time to treat acne, as well as prevent other infections upon occasion, such as UTIs. You should follow your doctor's advice on how long to take it.
Your body doesn't reject a medication, per se, it would more be the medication losing its efficacy, so it would stop working as well for you.
It would be best to consult your dermatologist to be sure whether you just had a side effect rash, or an allergic reaction, so you can discuss how to proceed from here.
