What Is The Effect Of Glevo 500mg On Lactating Mothers

I am a 26 year old breast feeding mother, with sore throat for 3/7 now. I have tried amoxiclav but no change.
Consulted a physician who recommended glevo 500mg OD x 4/7.
My concern is my four months old baby. What are the effects of glevo 500mg on me or my child?

Hi Rahma,

In regards to Glevo (levofloxacin) use during breastfeeding, there are no controlled data/studies on the excretion of levofloxacin into human milk.

Levofloxacin is the L-isomer of ofloxacin which is excreted into human milk. Quinolone-induced cartilage erosion and arthropathies that have been observed in juvenile animals render some concern over its possible toxic effects on the developing joints of nursing infants. Because of the potential for serious adverse effects in nursing infants, a decision should be made to discontinue nursing or discontinue administration of levofloxacin, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
