Since fever blisters are caused by a virus, rather than a bacteria, this will not help.

Fever blisters are also what are known as cold sores, they are caused by a herpes simplex virus, as explained by the NIH. There are over the counter remedies that you can try, if your doctor approves, or if you get them regularly, your doctor can prescribe a medication to help prevent them that's called Acyclovir.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain.
