What Is Sodium Oxybate?

I am using it for a sleeping aid - however it is also known as the 'date rape drug' - let me tell you, I can understand how women or men can sucumb to its 'known reasons for use...' - dangerous!!!

The name brand is Xyrem and it is manufactured by Jazz Pharmaceuticals. Thus the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including headache, irritability, insomnia, and weight loss. It is most commonly used to treat narcolepsy, and excessive daytime sleepiness, but it has been known to cause somnolence in some people that take it, which might be why it helps you to sleep. NDC code: 68727-100

However date rape drugs are usually considered to be substances such a Rohypnol, or Ketamine, that does cause drowsiness in most people that take them, sometimes complete unconsciousness. I was slipped some at a party, one night, and I was out in seconds and I am sure you can guess how the rest went. That is why the FDA issues so many warnings, and sometimes black box warnings with the substance itself. Most people are going to crash out if one is given to them, thus they are much more reliable for the perpetrators.

I am not saying other substances don't work, because almost anything in the right amounts can cause an overdose, and loss of consciousness.
