It may help with the pain, since it is classified by the FDA as a narcotic analgesic, but it will not help with the swelling, or any possible infection that has caused this issue, that will require other medications, as deemed appropriate by your doctor, or dentist.
The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.
I strongly urge you to consult your doctor, or dentist, as infections that are spreading could become dangerous.
