I get 300 2 mg dilaudid per month for non-healing lower leg wounds. They are extremely painful during bandage changes. Does that seem like an awful lot of pills? I've been taking them for about 7 years a d it seems that's the only thing that helps. My dose was upped this month. Can I get this new prescription filled now or do I have to wait? I live in Maryland.

Hello, Mary! How are you?

As to getting it filled, you'll need to check with your pharmacy. In some cases, since this is a controlled substance, they'll have you just up your dosage with the existing pills you have and then pick up the new prescription, once they are finished.

To some it would seem like an awful lot of pills, yes, but the necessary amount for pain relief can vary from person to person, so what really matters is what's right for you to relieve your pain, since you have such a serious condition.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?
