I take metformin and it always looked like an oval and this time it is round with70 on one side and a Z on the other side and this is not bring down my sugar. please let me know because the pharmacy has made mistakes before.

This tablet is manufactured by Zydus Pharmaceuticals and they do list it as containing 500mgs of Metformin, which is used to help lower and control blood sugar.
The FDA lists the most common side effects to this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, flatulence, stomach pain and hypoglycemia.
There can be slight fluctuations from one generic to another, but how high is your blood sugar?
It could be that this one just doesn't work for you, or is too much lower in the active ingredient to be effective for you. You may need to see your doctor to get a new prescription, or a dosage adjustment.

Susan, if he was given this tablet, instead of Metformin, then someone made an error.
This is a 200mg Toprol XL tablet manufactured by AstraZeneca.
The FDA classifies this medication as a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.
