What Could Cause A Positive Test For Methadone (Top voted first)

a random drug test yielded a positive test for methadone. If you are not taking methadone, how could that be?

I just got a positive lab test for methadone but I have never taken the drug before. I am in a treatment center that gives me meds daily and it has been showing up since I got here. My probation officer thinks i am getting this drug in my treatment center illegally somehow and this is impossible. I am currently taking sertraline, propanolo, oxcarbazepine, trazodone, cetirizine and buspirone. Can any of these or a combination of these cause a certified lab to falsely test urine for methadone?

I am not taking methadone however a drug test for a job today showed positive. I do take several medications and take stuff (legal) like nyquil etc all the time what could have made me test positive ??

I know what you mean. i had an accident at work and had to take a drug test and it came back positive for methadone. I did't know what methadone was until the the nurse told me at the Drs. office told me. I never taken methadone, never had a prescription for it and now I don't have a job. I feel like people think i am lying. Does anybody know of any type of drugs that could cause you to have a false positive drug scheening for methadone. Thanks

Hi, I took a 15 mg dose of methadone on Friday at 4 pm. I dont take it every day. I have a pre employment drug screen today (Monday)... Will it show up on a 10 panel since it was a low dose and I don't take it every day? I do take allergy meds, lortab (legally) and Nyquill regularly

Hi there. I to am a little freaked out. I take some pain medications, oxycodone and morpine as well as topomax for migraine prevention and just recently zocor. I switched pain mngt. docs and they did an instant drug test on me and it came positive for low dose levels of methadone.i was freaked! My God friend died from nethadone! I have never/would never take it! I can't think of anything over the counter that I may have taken except an alleve! Augh!

I have been in recovery court for a year and half for drinking. I test 1 to 2 times a week and never droped dirty untill about 2 to 3 weeks ago. I have tested posititive for methadone on the 10 panal strips 3 weeks in a row at testing once a week. They labed the first one and came back positive. I have never done methadone in My life and didn't know really what it was untill I tested positive. The only thing I have done diffirent in the last year and a half is start taking birth control, wellbutrin and Ibuprophin 800 (IB p I took the whole time). The positive tests started as soon as I started taking them. I have not taken any other drugs. What could cause me to lab test positive for methidone 3 weeks in a row? It is driving me crazy to know I haven't ever in My life touched it and people think I'm full of s***. Honestly... that's what I would think. Pleas help!!!

Methadone is a synthetic opiate and it is possible that on a test that isn't done by a certified lab, other substances could cause you to show a false positive for it, including other synthetic or semi-synthetic opiates.

Few employers are required to use a certified lab and most of the regular, inexpensive labs do have an error rate that ranges fro 4 to 50%.

Sharron, in your case, it could have been the NyQuil, as it has been known to cause a false positive for Methadone on these types of tests.

It may also cause false positives for Amphetamines, Heroin and Meth.

I was at the drs. today and tested positive for methadone . I never even seen the stuff before . I took a guy to a methadone clinic a few years ago for heiron addiction, thats all I know about it . So how could this happen ? I do take oxycodone 10mg for pain but That's what he gives me . I take the test every month with out any problem . The only thing I took different is , Allegry , and goodys headache medicine. Does anyone out there know the anwser ? Thanks.

Hi there just wanted to say u did the same. I notice u said u took something woth zepin at the end. The nurse told me it could sleeping medicine I take or my anxeity med such as ambien which is lorazinpam and the anxeity meds which are a type of benzoneprin

Ramona, Nucynta contains Tapentadol and it isn't know to cause false positives, so far, but from the various posts we've gotten on them, from all different classes of medications, I can't say that anything really surprises me, anymore.

There are, apparently, some bad tests on the market, that are causing all manner of odd results.

i an extremly upset. I went to the doctor today and he accused me of a dirty urine having methadone in it. I have never even seen a methadone pill. I told him I am taking nucenta 75 mg. could this have registered as methadone. I am extremly hurt. I have been accused of being a liar and druggie.

i had a to do a urine test at my doctor last week and i have never taken any methedone but it showed in my system? my doctor has me on suboxone but he said that wouldnt make me have a possitive urine test with methadone in it

Ramona, check out this peer reviewed article from The Journal of Analytical Toxicology. It seems Nucynta does cause false positives for methadone.

I went to my doctors appointment for maintenance. I have been on suboxone for years and have stayed clean for years. About two months ago they came out with a generic suboxone so I started taking that. My copay went from $50dollars to $10. Well much to my surprise the doctor took a urine sample and I tested positive for suboxone and methodone. I have never taken methodone in my life. I felt like know one believes me. It brings back so many bad memories of the addict I once was. The lying, stealing and cheating. But I took another urine test and still positive for methodone. So I decided to go to lab cor and get a blood test. My doctor will get the results Monday or T Tuesday. It's a terrible feeling to know your telling truth and can't prove it. But I swear I have never ever taken methodone. Please help me understand this ??? Any idea's ???

tested positive today for methadone. shocked. found a journal article showing Nucynta often creates false positive. can't wait to print and drop off to doc. felt so judged and am tired of it. done nothing wrong and i feel like a criminal. i feel awful for people who have lost jobs or missed opportunities because these drug screens are being used wrongly. :-(
