All medications carry the risk of causing side effects.

The FDA lists the typical ones for Prednisone as possibly including nausea, headache, dizziness, nervousness, fluid retention, weight gain, and insomnia.

Yes, it can cause stomach pain. Some people simply can't tolerate certain medications due to this. Try taking it with food and plenty of water to potentially reduce the risk. If the stomach pain persists contact your doctor.

I've been lucky when taking prednisone myself, as I've noticed virtually no side effects from it; aside from perhaps a slight boost in energy. We're all different though and many people experience pretty bad side effects from corticosteroids like prednisone.
