Wellbutrin Xl Withdrawal

Can I just stop taking 150 mg xl wellbutrin, it is my second day off and I do t feel too bad. Are the withdrawal effects yet to come. My pharmacist told me to take one and then skip one and so on till I was finished, but I have read that is not a good idea. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My pdoc wanted to wean me off of 150 mg Wellbutrin XL completely. But she told me that taking it every other day would be too much of a jump. Instead, I should take 150 mg one day and 75 mg the next. However, brand Wellbutrin XL is not available in 75 mg dosage and you can't cut a 150 mg XL pill in half. She suggested that I try one of the generics which was available in 75 mg dosage. The only generic I was tolerant of was TEVA Budeprion XL. But the FDA pulled it from the market and I had to go back to brand Wellbutrin. TEVA Budeprion however was available in a 75 mg SR form. I tried it but it didn't work so I'm back to brand Wellbutrin XL 150 mg and plan to stay on it the rest of my life. You may want to try one of the SR 75 mg and see if it works for you. However, it didn't work for me.

Hi Heather,

According to a Womens Health newsletter by Harvard University, it's best to really take your time with this process, having a step-by-step plan the entire way through (also including things such as; exercising regularly, seeking support from close friends/family, eating healthy, laughing often, getting plenty of rest, etc).

The article goes on to state that, "by the time you stop using the medication, your dose should be tiny; (taking into consideration the option to use a liquid formula for achieving progressively smaller doses)". - I didn't think Bupropion/Wellbutrin was available as a liquid suspension, but they may be referring to other shorter-acting antidepressants to help ease the release of any remaining amounts of Wellbutrin from the system.
