Weaning Off Of Fentanyl Patch

Hi, I started using a 12 mcg fentanyl patch about a month and a half ago for chronic pain. I never abused them and I always changed them every 72 hours like I was prescribed to. Well I decided that it was time to get off the patch and tried one day to take it off and a few hours later I started to experience "the flu times ten" I was told by my doctor that my body had formed a dependency to the drug and if I was ready to get off then he wants to wean me off. Well he prescribed me to dilaudid 4mg and he said as soon as I take the patch off to take half off my first dilaudid. The first day I take a half every 6 hours.. the next 2 days I take a half every 8 hours.. then the next 2 days after that its a half every 12 hours.. then the next 2 days after that its a half daily. I'm still nervous that I will experience a withdrawal from the dilaudid though. What do you all think about this plan? It's now been 2 hours after taking my patch off and I feel completely fine. I'm so nervous :/

The primary put a 75 mcg Fentanyl patch on me inpatient for herniated disc 5 months ago. Now I had my knee scoped. I am on oxycontin10 twice a day and 20 to 30 mgs total of oxycodone. I need a shoulder replacement and don't want to be opioid tolerant. My primary wants me off the oxycontin first. My shoulder can't wait for all this weaning before weaning me off the patch. What can I do?
Yes, you may still experience some withdrawal, but mostly from the Fentanyl, not from the Dilaudid that you'd be taking for such a short period of time.
However, there's really nothing you can do about it, it is normal to experience it, but since you weren't abusing it, or taking it for a long period of time, they aren't likely to be dangerous or to last for very long.

How are you doing now? Any better?
