Just got a refill of metoprolol er succinate 50mg which used to have Watson listed as the manufacturer but now says Actavis. The pills look exactly the same and the imprint is the same with an 831 number but they stink like paint. Never had this before. The pharmacist checked the original container and that stinks too. Anyone else notice this?

Most pills do have an odor, but many manufacturers use a coating on them to prevent patients from smelling it. Thus, I have to assume that when Actavis bought out many of Watson's products, they stopped coating them. It is, however, nothing to worry about, even though I know it may be annoying.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.
