Want To Stop Taking Oxycontin 5mg Every 12 Hours

Have been taking OxyContin 5mg every 12 hours for about a year. How difficult to come off this drug? Am very tired and the dosage is not enough now. Don't want to take them any more.

I think you'll be fine. If you are truly on only 10 mg a day, total, that is a crazy low dosage, and of course that wouldn't do anything for you really. Oxycodone is the drug in OxyContin,same as Percocet or Oxycodone IR except OxyContin is made to be time release. Most people with chronic pain are started out on 10 mg 3 times a day, which is a total of 30 mg per day. Even on 30 mg. I think withdrawal would be minimal. I goofed up on my meds once and had to go with almost nothing for a week and never have had any withdrawal. I would say at worst you may feel like you have a touch of the flu for a bit.

Thank you so much. I have fibromyalgia and it was wonderful to get better sleeps at night. I am looking after my elderly husband so feel I need good nights to cope. BUT feel the need for more pain relief at present. I get the deep pain and aches back long before next tablet due. Your reply really helped me. Thank you again

Hello again! Maybe he will let you change to taking your 2 pills at night. A lot of docs won't prescribe pain meds for fibro as many studies have shown them to not help much with that condition. I'm recently diagnosed, was on pain meds for about 5 other painful things. I think they do help for me, but just take the edge off really. What did work for me like a miracle drug was Cymbalta. You've probably tried that. I've been on it for about 4 weeks now and have had pain free days. Good luck!

Hi again, thank you. I am due to see my GP this next week and will ask about taking 2 at night. That just might be the answer. My pains are extra bad at night time or at rest. I also have RLS. OSTEO ATHRITIS AND OSTEOPOROSIS. I FELL LAST YEAR AND FRACTURED MY HIP. SO HAD FULL HIP-REPLACEMENT.
