Walgreens Oxycodone Filling Tricks (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have read all the posts and found that the best way i found is on the 29th of aug i talked to the pharmacy manager and explained the dilemma i was facing and she told me just to transfer all my other scripts to her location and then drop off my oxy script and methadone and that they would order them for me if they were out.Bam ten days later i got a call yesterday that they had my script filled and to come pick them up.Hope this helps those having problems getting their meds filled.Good luck and god bless.
I had back surgery a couple of years ago, major back surgery, most of my spine. I have had pain for many years. I also have fibro, along with arthritis, and several other "ailments" I won't bother to list. Needless to say, it's been HELL is attempting to get pain MEDs filled. I take them carefully and cautiously, and even took MYSELF down to a lower dose, against my doctors orders. I find that even though I go to the same pharmacist, they are treating me badly. My husband usually picks up all my MEDs (more than for pain) and they are harassing him, not because he is picking them up (as I have difficulties driving so far), but because one is for oxycodone. It amazes me that Walgreens (after being a customer for years at the same locations), will not fill my script. ON top of it, a pharmacist last night at the location in Northdale (Carrrollwood, Tampa), explained to my husband (who has a PHD in Psychology and does research for cancer) that certain Dr's should give certain scripts, and questioned what I was taking, for what causes etc. The Gall!!!!! They said the Dr.s office was closed. He came back this morning to be told they preferred not to fill my prescription. This is called unbelievable customer service, years later, unfortunately I have chronic pain. I have a neurologist, a rhemotologist, and even saw a psychologist because of other issues relating to pain, and this pharmacist questioned my husband about who should give me what, and why. I think some people should get off their high horses, and they should hope I don't decide to sue. I am thinking about it, as I am disabled and was told who should prescribe what by a pharmacist. All my MEDs are given by one Dr, an internist who is a pain specialist, and all my other (very respected drs here) agree that one Dr should supervise the MEDs I take, as it is safer. I will now seek an attorney, and maybe I can at the least get help for us who are being persecuted because the state of Florida chooses not to provide a list of those taking pain MEDs so that people cannot pain shop. The oxycodone highway is the blame of the governor, who refuses (for our rights)??, to not allow pharmacists to talk to each other. I am all for personal rights, however those who shop for drugs, going place to place, and Dr to Dr should be stopped so that those who legitimately experience pain should not be crucified for it. My other option is to go to a morphine pump??? I try to control what I take, to keep it to a minimum and our pharmacies are going to make me take harsher drugs, and more??? I think WE ALL need to band together and demand to be treated like human beings with brains, and who deserve respect. WE are the customers, not them, and anyone who judges someone else without knowing the facts is purely ignorant.
My problem is with Walgreens as well, however, my prescription is for hydrocodone. I've been a chronic pain patient for several years. I do not abuse my medication. In the past six months I have refilled my prescription on time with the exception of two times, and it was two days early. Reason being, my doctor works only 3 days a week and sometimes it takes several days to.have a refill called in, so I will make my request early. My doctor keeps track of ky usage and has ALWAYS refilled when I've requested. He called in my refill on Monday. I tried to pick it up today and was told it wouldn't be ready until the 14th.....four days past the due date. Can they do this? I read on a different forum that they pharmacist will sometimes review your history and do a cumulative total.of times you've refilled early and delay your refill. Is this correct, or more importantly, is this legal? I have a legitimate prescription called in by my physician and they still refuse to refill? As of Thursday, I will be out and will have to go 3 days without my medication. Any suggestions on what my options are? Can I transfer the prescription to a different pharmacy? I hate the thought of fighting with the pharmacist over this. Every month its the same thing. I'm treated like a drug addict. It's humiliating.
I'm a veteran of the Iraq war and kept my self in excellent condition my whole life. Two years after I got back I developed severe and recurring shingles.I wasn't the only one.At least 10 people I was stationed in the same vacinty developed shingles and other deep nerve disorders. These were people I knew but had heard of several other people afflicted with skin and other nerve problems. The VA did nothing and 10 years ago I found a great pain management clinic in Claerwater Fl.Every month for the last 10 years I went to the same CVS with the same prescriptions for norco and methadone.I never had one problem.I have lived in the neighbor hood for 50 years, coached baseball and am considered a role model for the kids I coach.I never had any side effects from my medicine just relief from excruciating pain that's almost unbearable at times even with the medicine.I went to get my presciptions filled every month like I always do at the same CVS and was told they didn't have them come back tomorrow.I came back the next day and they said they couldn't fill them. This was the first time I ever seen this phamacist and I politely asked why and was told he didn't want to fill them and that was that.I couldn't believe what I heard.I gladly served my country and never complained about anything. My Dr had never seen shingles this bad and I didn't go into any explanation to this man as to why I needed my medicine or the fact that I didn't ask for this and at least found a way to get some relief. He didn't ask me and I think he was expecting me to beg him or get mad.I just walked away knowing I'm more of a man than he will ever be.This whole thing with pain management has become a nightmare for those who trully need it and there's nothing you can do.So many of the people I served with are no longer around and one day what we were exposed to will come full circle.Until then I just hope all the pharmacists who are trully having moral issues over dispencing perfectly legal and needed prescriptions take the time to find out who you by your own arbritartion have denied. There's other people not just veterans living with a pain filled nightmare of a life by no choice of there own.If you feel that strongly about trying to stop pain pill abuse work for the DEA.I've taken my prescriptions to several different pharmacies and because I'm new to there system no one will fill them. There will be no sob stories here. Not when so many people have lost limbs, eye sight and in some cases there sanity after all they have been through.I never imagined after all I've seen and been through and thinking at the time this would be the last time I would have to suck it up and tough it out like I had to that I would ever have to do it again but I will. In the end the only person that will truly suffer from this is the all powerfull I'll show you just who I am pharmacist.Just remember what comes around goes around in so many different ways.
cmj one sentence "i don't feel comfortable" is all it takes for the pharmacist to refuse. Even corporate will tell you they have the right to refuse and all the walgreens by me in clearwater now have signs saying we reserve the right deny any prescription for a controlled substance
I have been going to the same Walgreens near my home for a year and they have been filling my scripts for a year for pain meds and other medications. I gave all kinds of ID to the pharmacy manager to be able to get started including my bankstatement. I take another kind of pain med,,not oxy or meth. on 19th I was refused by a "floater" pharmacist who refused to tell me when another pharmacist would be working. When I complained to the store manager I was told that Walgreens policy had changed and that because I was refused by their pharmacist I was now ban from getting those scripts filled at ANY Walgreens store. The next day I got my scripts filled at a major store's pharmacy with no problem. Walgreens said it was between my dr. and the pharmacist & refused to tell me what the new policy was. I am a retired law enforcement officer & the war on drugs is a joke!
I agree completely... for 12 Years I was a Walgreens customer with the same meds, which I am on a lot because had 11 surgeries, well 2 of the meds is Oxycodone and soma, well one day went to fill meds and they Pharmacist said that Walgreens policy can not fill the 2 together any longer. So I went without the Soma for a month, and ending up in the Hospital really sick. My Doctor was so mad and referred me to a awesome pharmacy that said if I fill all my scripts there every month he will always Guarantee that he will fill my meds.. ( I am on 13 scripts ). This Pharmacy is awesome, been there 7 months now and never have a issue, the people always greet you, the Pharmacist is always nice and helpful and I am in and out in about 10-15 minutes. I know you are in Tampa area I use to live there but now in NPR I know it is a little drive but if you ever wish to go there you can email me at {edited for privacy} and I will give you the info... I promise you will have no problems with this place they are awesome.. I hope you get it straightened out because pain is no way to live. Walgreens seems to go out of way to be nasty, one day I was sitting waiting for scripts and people came through drive through and the tech and pharmacist would joke and laugh and pick which people to give meds to and which to deny.. I saw and heard it with my own eyes and ears... WALGREENS SUCKS on the corner of Suck and Suckiest :)
I have not had any problems getting my oxycodone prescription filled by Wallgreens along with my other medications until this past month! When their distribution center was shut down, they were left empty handed for many medications including oxycodone! I am told that they have a new distributor but that they got no oxycodone in their last order as well as other medication that that did not get! They are hoping that as the weeks go by that their new supplier will be able to meet their demands. However where does that leave those of us that have dealt with Wallgreen exclusivel! I will tell you, it left us out in the cold as no one wants to fill these scripts that we have!
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET OXYCODONE 30'S FILLED ON A REGULAR BASIS? I'M WILLING TO TRANSFER ALL MY SCRIPTS THERE I JUST CAN'T KEEP GOING THROUGH THIS EVERY MONTH. I'M IN LAS VEGAS NEVADA CAN ANYONE HELP ME? I'm not able to drive all over town every month, then have to wait 48 more hours if I do find them. They won't tell you over the phone now and I'D BE HAPPY TO NEVER GO IN ANOTHER WALGREENS AS LONG AS I LIVE!!!! {edited for privacy}
The problem is this. The cops in Palm Beach Co., Dade/Miami Co., & Broward Co. dropped the ball and let all those pill mill doctors spring up. Then the documentary came around called the Oxy Express about how people were flying down here on the Oxy Express flight and getting drugs and taking them back to their states and selling them. The govenors of those states got really ticked and made statements on the documentary that Florida was out of control, bla bla bla. Pam Bondi ran for Atty. General and promised to "clean up the pill mills and drug problems" and when Scott got elected govener he and Bondi got together and made new rules restricting the amount of narcotics that comes into the state, which drs can and cant write scripts and a bunch of stuff that made the Dept of Health, pharmacists and doctors become the cops of narcotics. Those people don't know how to be cops so it has become a real mess. Also, when I couldn't get my script filled I tracked it down and the manufacturer was back ordered meaning they didn't make enough to go around. Also the pharmacys need to fill all your scripts if you have any. Try the smaller pharmacys closest to your home. Try going in and talking to the pharmacy manager or owner and take them more than your drivers license. We have to prove that we are not drug addits because things are so bad. Also I suggest you write to your Congress person for the state. In 1995 Florida had an Intractable Pain Law which said that doctors should be able to write scripts without fear of harrassment by DEA or any other agency. Well they changed the law because of a few counties. My doctor was an award winning doctor and well liked by other doctors. Dept. of Health took her license but she fought them and won and got her license back. The problem is the laws that they have passed that make it so hard now cause Dept. of Health and DEA are pressured to enforce the laws and Dept of Health isn't a cop and DEA isn't a doctor or pharmacist. So you have people trying to do jobs they shouldn't be doing. Unless people start speaking up and writing the govenor and other officials then nothing is going to change. Politicians don't want to loose votes so state your case. Call the media and ask them to help you. Do everything you can to bring it to light that the new laws are hurting innocent people who just want some pain relief to be able to walk around. Also, do other things that relieve your pain like chiropractic care, massage therepy, hot showers,,,,what ever you find that helps relieve your pain and if you don't know ways then find a multidisiplinary doctor who can teach you. This goes for everybody out there in pain who is having problems getting their meds or keeping a doctor. Good luck and God Bless to all...and to the veteran and or veterans who served our country, thank you for your service.
Well I have been with walgreens many years. I have thyroid medicine..blood pressure medicine & was getting a 15 oxycodone which i break in half. I used to take large amounts of tylenol for nueropathy & a neck injury that gives me intense pain in my arms as well. I also take flexerel to help. But a new lady at pharmacy refused to fill my prescription & it was a weekend. It scared me to be told u cant go to any walgreens. I have been responsible & never abused. I was not rude to her. I just went home & cryed from humiliation & fear of pain .I am 54 & have been a hairdresser for many years...this medication made it possible for me to work a little longer. Its not easy to explain to a young new pharmacist what its like to have a car accident that affects your whole life. A drunk driver changed mine. Im punished for it.
hi"s is in response to Weneed exercise' post.
If you would take a moment to read the topic of conversation here, it is about a pharmacy filling a prescription ONLY.
I have had 40 + injections in my neck and shoulders. I had a left hip replacement recently and have gone through 24 weeks of physical therapy over the past several years.
I take 8 different vitamins and supplements daily.
I have been to 3 spinal surgeons who agree that I need to have 2 vertebraes removed from my neck (C-4 , C-5) and replaced with artificial vertebraes. This is an extremely risky procedure and all the surgeons agree that I should wait until I can no longer put up with the pain. Due to my age (55) and my line of work surgery on my shoulders would most likely fail in a short period of time.
I own a Palm Tree Nursery and am a building contractor. I do have employees but I still do a lot of very physical work. I invite you to come see if you could keep up with my 70 hour work week. Many men half my age have quit over the years trying to meet my production.
Due to the pain medicines I take I have to take something for the side effects of constipation and something else to help with voiding my bladder. These issues are just wonderful to deal with.
My hip still hurts badly (in a different way), especially when I have to climb ladders or work on my hands and knees. I also love when it "pops" due to something while working.
I am really eager to have more surgeries since my hip replacement has been such a success. I have about 5% body fat and still pretty muscular from weight lifting so you cannot say that I need exercise.
I cannot speak for anyone else but the last thing I need is any issues from a pharmacist who knows NOTHING about my physical problems and has never done an examination or seen my "library" of x-rays, CT or Mylo scans nor knows NOTHING about the procedures I have had done, the results, and with issues I am facing in any further procedures I need and why surgeons recommend not to do anything at this point in time.
All of us know there many people, "patients" to get pharmacuticals, and Doctors to make easy money. But it is uninformed, narrow minded, people like you who have painted laws with a broad brush, that have unrightfully included all of us. You need, as do the lawmakers, pharmacists and everyone on "your side" of this issue to get rid of any "bad" doctors so we can enable the people who truly need these medecines just to have any quality of life.
I guarantee I would meet any and all requirements into the most stringent of systems to "qualify" as a patient who truly needs these medecines. We need to return to letting the doctors do the examinations and the pharmacists following the doctor's treatment plan. I would like to see any pharmacist look at all of my documents and see what there course of action would be. They would be LOST. They neither have they education, experience or training.
The pharmacists and politicians need to quit "PLAYING DOCTOR". They are not qaulified. When did pharmacists get the athourity and from where to refuse a doctors orders.
In closing, please "Weneedexercise", let me know when you would like to come and try to keep up with any of us here for a month. Thats a laugh. Lets go for a week or ten days. Over my years I have seen many "big talkers" like you. All uninformed "know it alls".
I can't wait until the day you have deadly pain where it takes your qualify of life right out from under neath you and now your stuck in bed because the pain is so bad. No amount of exercise, can't even do physical therapy because your bones hurt so bad or you don't have any discs left in your back with a metal rod going through it.....please give me herbs or anything else that will help please Dr fu of I don't know what I'm talking about
I hope this will be helpful. Let me first state that I do not expect to have NO PAIN. Heck, I'm okay with MODERATE PAIN. What I refuse to do is have pain that keeps me from doing normal daily functions like go to work and take care of my family.
The story? I have a "frozen knee" (aka athrofibrosis) where my knee does not bend more than 36 degrees. Functional motion is considered between 0 and 117 degrees and you need at least 60 degrees of motion to walk. I have tried years of physical therapy and have undergone 3 manipulations under anesthetic. Nothing has worked (even though I'm continuing PT at my own expense). Naturally, my whole gait is completely off. I suffer from excruciating ankle pain, hip pain and even shoulder pain because my body is completely "off." I see a very well-known rheumatologist who has proof of my "off-kilter" skeleton and consequently my off kilter muscles and tendons by way of x-rays, MRI's and CT scans. Why not get the knee replaced? I have no insurance and cannot afford a house payment, a used-car payment, food and electric on my salary - much less pay for insurance through Obama-care that has a $10,000.00 deductible (and costs $350.00 per month).
ANYWAY....my doctor used to prescribe 120 ten (10) mg Percocet (10/325 or 10/500) per month. Then the Florida drug Armageddon came and 10 mg were IMPOSSIBLE to get. So he switched me to 180 5mg Percocet (5/325) per month with 50mg tramadol for breakthrough pain. This worked for about 3 years. Then - all of a sudden, the Walgreens pharmacy where I fill ALL of my prescriptions (not just pain medicine) refused to fill both at the same time. Their reasoning was both Rx's were considered "immediate" pain relief and that they would fill one OR the other but not both. While my doctor was very upset with the pharmacists practicing "medicine," we both could understand their point and so we worked out a compromise that seems to be benefiting me and making the pharmacist happy.
I now use a 50mcg Fentanyl patch (we started at 25mcg but it just didn't work) along with Tramadol for break through pain. I find that the Fentanyl flows constantly and I don't have to deal with the "ups" and "downs" of taking the oral medication. Yes - we all know that there is a slight "bump" in our mood/feelings when you take a strong opiate. The Fentanyl patch eliminates that but also eliminates that slow onset of pain that you get while you wait for the proper time to take another pill. NOTE: I felt that Fentanyl wasn't as effective as Percocet, and you may find this to and as such may also need a higher dose.
Couple of words of advice: I see my doctor every three months for checkups and have complete blood work done every 6 months. I also asked my doctor (and gave written permission) to have an open and frank discussion with my pharmacist (who is also the pharmacy manager) about my condition and that fact that it will probably never be fixed . He let her know that fact that I see him regularly (as described above) him and the pharmacist is welcome to contact him anytime. I believe that this consistent and open communication between the three people involved - the doctor, the patient and the pharmacist - is the only way that those of us with chronic pain are going to be able to move forward until cures or fixes for our physical challenges can be achieved.
I am retired military, and Walgreen's refused to refill my pain prescription early, even with the consent of my doctor and my family emergency. I had permission from the Insurance Company, Walgreen's makes decisions they should not. If my doctor writes me a legitimate prescription, he had a reason. They can see I was taking for years thru Walgreen's when they used to take military insurance. I only went there , CVS, Target, Fry's - was out of the medication. I was willing to pay for it instead of send thru my insurance. and then they didn't want to give me my prescription back. It took me a lot of after our calls, but I got it back. Stay away from Walgreen's!!!
I have had on-going problems with getting my oxycodone prescriptions filled by Wallgreens. Believe me, I tried to call someone who could help me overcome these problems but the problem I ran into is that there is NO number available for people to call. There is no way to even contact anyone in the top chain of command by e-mail. I was left adjusting my dosage to accomodate the whims of the Walgreens employees. Something which I am sure any doctor would condemn.
totally agree with you alot of people don't understand what chronic pain is really like, there are days when you would rather be dead then to deal with the horrible pain that only you can feel and sometimes not be able to describe. What it feels like when the only thing you look forward to is going to get your scripts from your pain doctor.
Now I agree with using the one pharmacy for your meds. However if you use Walgreens and one location don't have something and then you go to another location, I don't see where that would be a problem since they can see when and where you had your meds filled. The problem I have with waiting until the day you need your meds(lately) is you find yourself running all over town finding one that has it in stock. Now I have filled my on the 29th day and the next month on the 31st day to compensate, but somehow that don't matter when you are a day late, just when you are one day early. If it's a written script that doesn't specify it can't be filled then I don't see where a pharmacist at your local Walgreens can scrutinize. They obviously are tied in with the DEA more lately and it's nothing but a hassle to wait unitl the day you are going to be out and not able to find one with the quantity you need. That's what I get more now for an excuse is "We don't have the amount you are prescribed" It's ridiculous and the prescription money train is all backed up by the government anyway, so WTF!
Walgreens has been my pharmacy for @ least 26 years now. They have a policy that they have to call your doctor to verify your scripts this is was fine with me. My pain doctor has me on a 28 day schedule. So last month I go to get my scripts filled and the pharmacist I spoke to tells me I have to call these into your doctor and but you won't be able to pick them up until tomorrow well this was not OK with me I ask her why and she proceeds to tell me it's our process and I say Yes I know but that's not new you've been doing this and she says no it's a new process at this point I'm very upset and she says you should be OK you're not due till tomorrow anyways I proceed to tell her no I'm not I'm on a 28 day schedule she still tells me tomorrow and I tell her this is bullcrap and she tells me I don't care to talk to you anymore so I decided to try another Walgreens close by grant it I ended up waiting 3 more hours and when I went to pick them up at the drive - thru the girl tells me they're not ready and wants me to park I have about 4 or 5 cars behind me and I tell her uh no I have a line of cars behind me and I've already waited 3 hours I finally got them. I really do believe that these pharmacists are going the extra mile to find ways of not filling your scripts. You could be a doctor or a pharmacist and know everything there is to know about pain and ways of treating it but if you don't know what it really feels like how do you have a right to judge a person who experiences it on a daily basis you don't have a clue it's OK for you to say you can wait one more day what's one more day. Take a walk in our shoes just one day I guarantee they would have more respect and wouldn't second guess their patients....
verwon,I have been going toa local walgreens for 4 years now.My whole family went there. We new the pharmacist and he took care of us.Them recently a new pharmacist started working there also and our old pharmacist changed. Now they won't fill any class 2. I;m screwed trying to reastablish now.
Walgreens has had some of their warehouses and pharmacys shut down by the DEA. One store in Tampa, as I undeerstand it, had a pharmacist taking the oxy out of the pharmacy and selling it on the street. I think that is why Walgreens stopped filling narcotic scripts. There are caring pharmacists out there who want to fill your scripts to help control your pain. Try looking for a doctor and pharmacy close to where you live. Best of luck.
