Walgreens Oxycodone Filling Tricks
UpdatedI have read all the posts and found that the best way i found is on the 29th of aug i talked to the pharmacy manager and explained the dilemma i was facing and she told me just to transfer all my other scripts to her location and then drop off my oxy script and methadone and that they would order them for me if they were out.Bam ten days later i got a call yesterday that they had my script filled and to come pick them up.Hope this helps those having problems getting their meds filled.Good luck and god bless.
That was actually a very good idea, because pharmacies are usually allowed to be more lenient and helpful to their regular customers, so by transferring all of your prescriptions to them, you basically made yourself a regular customer.

I use the local QFC pharmacy here and noticed the same thing whenever I need something filled, since I've been going there for a long time and use them for everything, they'll order in whatever I need, but several years ago, when I was new to the area, they weren't quite so helpful.
Does anyone else have any ideas or solutions?
verwon,I have been going toa local walgreens for 4 years now.My whole family went there. We new the pharmacist and he took care of us.Them recently a new pharmacist started working there also and our old pharmacist changed. Now they won't fill any class 2. I;m screwed trying to reastablish now.
I have not had any problems getting my oxycodone prescription filled by Wallgreens along with my other medications until this past month! When their distribution center was shut down, they were left empty handed for many medications including oxycodone! I am told that they have a new distributor but that they got no oxycodone in their last order as well as other medication that that did not get! They are hoping that as the weeks go by that their new supplier will be able to meet their demands. However where does that leave those of us that have dealt with Wallgreen exclusivel! I will tell you, it left us out in the cold as no one wants to fill these scripts that we have!
No pharmacist can refuse to fill any legitimate prescription with the exception of one. This may be a bad analogy, but the "morning after" pill can be refused if it's against the pharmacist beliefs. BUT they MUST (by law) provide you with the Walgreen's and phone number that WILL fill it. Same goes with oxycodone. It sounds like this new pharmacist has a thing against filling Class II meds. He's breaking his oath he took as a pharmacist. Even so, he's at least required to find you a Walgreen's who WILL fill it. Good luck. I would also call Walrgeen's Headquarters and report this pharmacist.
cmj one sentence "i don't feel comfortable" is all it takes for the pharmacist to refuse. Even corporate will tell you they have the right to refuse and all the walgreens by me in clearwater now have signs saying we reserve the right deny any prescription for a controlled substance
Mike. I just got off the phone with the manager of my local walgreens pharmacy. He said "Absolutely not. The only time one of their pharmacists can refuse to fill a class II medication is if they feel there's abuse going on, there's a habit of filling earlier and earlier each month, prescriptions coming from multiple doctors, or the prescription doesn't look legitimate (forged)" He, however, will NOT fill the morning after pill but must provide a pharmacist who will. Maybe things are different in Florida (pill capital of the US) and had to crack down on the number of pills coming from Fla to the rest of the states. I don't know the reason. But that's what the walgreen's pharmacists boss told me personally. Yes, they may need to order them for their regular customers so they have them in stock, but they ARE filled and can not be refused except under those limited circumstances.
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET OXYCODONE 30'S FILLED ON A REGULAR BASIS? I'M WILLING TO TRANSFER ALL MY SCRIPTS THERE I JUST CAN'T KEEP GOING THROUGH THIS EVERY MONTH. I'M IN LAS VEGAS NEVADA CAN ANYONE HELP ME? I'm not able to drive all over town every month, then have to wait 48 more hours if I do find them. They won't tell you over the phone now and I'D BE HAPPY TO NEVER GO IN ANOTHER WALGREENS AS LONG AS I LIVE!!!! {edited for privacy}
I know you're going through hell right now, hang in there. Try to find a Walgreen's near a hospital or pain clinic. They're more than likely to have the stronger meds in stock. I would also get a note from your prescribing doctor explaining that you'll be needing these meds for an extended period of time. I would ask to speak with the manager (make sure he's a pharmacist too) give him/her the note and tell the manager what you go through to have these meds filled and you would appreciate if they would please order them for you around the (date of the script) each month. The Walgreen's in Illinois requires the pharmacist tells you if a certain schedule II med is in stock or not. The pharmacy tech can not. Once you get a repore going with the same walgreen's, hopefully the same pharmacist, never (and I mean NEVER) try to fill it one day early. I really hope you find somewhere soon. It'll take some wok but they will fill them for you. You just have to keep looking :-( I wish there were more I could say to help you. If I think of anything, I'll repost.
I have been going to the same Walgreens near my home for a year and they have been filling my scripts for a year for pain meds and other medications. I gave all kinds of ID to the pharmacy manager to be able to get started including my bankstatement. I take another kind of pain med,,not oxy or meth. on 19th I was refused by a "floater" pharmacist who refused to tell me when another pharmacist would be working. When I complained to the store manager I was told that Walgreens policy had changed and that because I was refused by their pharmacist I was now ban from getting those scripts filled at ANY Walgreens store. The next day I got my scripts filled at a major store's pharmacy with no problem. Walgreens said it was between my dr. and the pharmacist & refused to tell me what the new policy was. I am a retired law enforcement officer & the war on drugs is a joke!
I had back surgery a couple of years ago, major back surgery, most of my spine. I have had pain for many years. I also have fibro, along with arthritis, and several other "ailments" I won't bother to list. Needless to say, it's been HELL is attempting to get pain MEDs filled. I take them carefully and cautiously, and even took MYSELF down to a lower dose, against my doctors orders. I find that even though I go to the same pharmacist, they are treating me badly. My husband usually picks up all my MEDs (more than for pain) and they are harassing him, not because he is picking them up (as I have difficulties driving so far), but because one is for oxycodone. It amazes me that Walgreens (after being a customer for years at the same locations), will not fill my script. ON top of it, a pharmacist last night at the location in Northdale (Carrrollwood, Tampa), explained to my husband (who has a PHD in Psychology and does research for cancer) that certain Dr's should give certain scripts, and questioned what I was taking, for what causes etc. The Gall!!!!! They said the Dr.s office was closed. He came back this morning to be told they preferred not to fill my prescription. This is called unbelievable customer service, years later, unfortunately I have chronic pain. I have a neurologist, a rhemotologist, and even saw a psychologist because of other issues relating to pain, and this pharmacist questioned my husband about who should give me what, and why. I think some people should get off their high horses, and they should hope I don't decide to sue. I am thinking about it, as I am disabled and was told who should prescribe what by a pharmacist. All my MEDs are given by one Dr, an internist who is a pain specialist, and all my other (very respected drs here) agree that one Dr should supervise the MEDs I take, as it is safer. I will now seek an attorney, and maybe I can at the least get help for us who are being persecuted because the state of Florida chooses not to provide a list of those taking pain MEDs so that people cannot pain shop. The oxycodone highway is the blame of the governor, who refuses (for our rights)??, to not allow pharmacists to talk to each other. I am all for personal rights, however those who shop for drugs, going place to place, and Dr to Dr should be stopped so that those who legitimately experience pain should not be crucified for it. My other option is to go to a morphine pump??? I try to control what I take, to keep it to a minimum and our pharmacies are going to make me take harsher drugs, and more??? I think WE ALL need to band together and demand to be treated like human beings with brains, and who deserve respect. WE are the customers, not them, and anyone who judges someone else without knowing the facts is purely ignorant.
Walgreens has had some of their warehouses and pharmacys shut down by the DEA. One store in Tampa, as I undeerstand it, had a pharmacist taking the oxy out of the pharmacy and selling it on the street. I think that is why Walgreens stopped filling narcotic scripts. There are caring pharmacists out there who want to fill your scripts to help control your pain. Try looking for a doctor and pharmacy close to where you live. Best of luck.
My problem is with Walgreens as well, however, my prescription is for hydrocodone. I've been a chronic pain patient for several years. I do not abuse my medication. In the past six months I have refilled my prescription on time with the exception of two times, and it was two days early. Reason being, my doctor works only 3 days a week and sometimes it takes several days to.have a refill called in, so I will make my request early. My doctor keeps track of ky usage and has ALWAYS refilled when I've requested. He called in my refill on Monday. I tried to pick it up today and was told it wouldn't be ready until the 14th.....four days past the due date. Can they do this? I read on a different forum that they pharmacist will sometimes review your history and do a cumulative total.of times you've refilled early and delay your refill. Is this correct, or more importantly, is this legal? I have a legitimate prescription called in by my physician and they still refuse to refill? As of Thursday, I will be out and will have to go 3 days without my medication. Any suggestions on what my options are? Can I transfer the prescription to a different pharmacy? I hate the thought of fighting with the pharmacist over this. Every month its the same thing. I'm treated like a drug addict. It's humiliating.
I am the retired law enforcememt officer who posted that Walgreens refused to fill my scripts after being a customer there for a year. I did some investigating and even spoke to DEA for 45 min. Seems that Walgreens has gotten into trouble for the way they handle narcotics. I understand a pharmacist in a Walgreens in Tampa was charged with selling oxy.outside the pharmacy. One pharmacy in Ft Myers was under investigation and others around the state had just been shut down as to being able to sell narcotics. Now all this is what I have heard and there hasn't been much in the media about it. But it may explain things a bit even tho I won't shop at Walgreens again if I can help it. Also, I use a pill box,,7 day pill box with 4 containers in each day for morning, noon, evening and night. I believe it really helps prevent accidental overdose. Hope this info helps.
I have also heard that the pharmacists keep track of how many times you have filled early. In pain control, it is important not to take more than you need but not to let your pain get bad cause then it will take more medication to bring it under control. But for those days when your pain isn't that bad, I just put those pills to the side for hurricane days or when the pharmacy is late getting my meds. I tracked mine down and found that the manufacturer was back ordered so they hadn't made enough medication to fill all the orders. It happens all the time. But the limits that Govenor Scott has put on Florida are not helping things for those of us who really need the pain meds. Between Scott and Pam Bondi it's a wonder we have any pain meds in Florida at all. But it is also important to find other ways to ease your pain like chiropractic or massage or hot showers or stretching or accupuncture. Using those things can help you take less pain medication.
The reason I filled early those two times is because in the past, I ran out waiting on the doctor to refill. I did a total myself and even if that's what the pharmacist did, he's still holding it longer than he should. If you count the months I had to wait longer than 30 days, the early refills cancel out. I've tried everything over the years to relieve my pain.....even went to a Chinese medicine woman who tries herbs and acupuncture. Other than surgery, which they say only has a 50% chance of working, medication is my only option. It's not a choice. Unfortunately, pharmacists think it is. My doctor is out until Monday, so there's no one to even call. I'm at the mercy of Walgreens and their pill police. I thought about just telling them to cancel the refill and transfer it to a different pharmacy. But who knows what this joker will tell the new pharmacist. I'm not even taking a schedule II medication. Hydro is a schedule III. Why the scrutiny? I can't believe I have to suffer for 3 days. But I guess I have no choice. Thank you for your responses.
I'm a veteran of the Iraq war and kept my self in excellent condition my whole life. Two years after I got back I developed severe and recurring shingles.I wasn't the only one.At least 10 people I was stationed in the same vacinty developed shingles and other deep nerve disorders. These were people I knew but had heard of several other people afflicted with skin and other nerve problems. The VA did nothing and 10 years ago I found a great pain management clinic in Claerwater Fl.Every month for the last 10 years I went to the same CVS with the same prescriptions for norco and methadone.I never had one problem.I have lived in the neighbor hood for 50 years, coached baseball and am considered a role model for the kids I coach.I never had any side effects from my medicine just relief from excruciating pain that's almost unbearable at times even with the medicine.I went to get my presciptions filled every month like I always do at the same CVS and was told they didn't have them come back tomorrow.I came back the next day and they said they couldn't fill them. This was the first time I ever seen this phamacist and I politely asked why and was told he didn't want to fill them and that was that.I couldn't believe what I heard.I gladly served my country and never complained about anything. My Dr had never seen shingles this bad and I didn't go into any explanation to this man as to why I needed my medicine or the fact that I didn't ask for this and at least found a way to get some relief. He didn't ask me and I think he was expecting me to beg him or get mad.I just walked away knowing I'm more of a man than he will ever be.This whole thing with pain management has become a nightmare for those who trully need it and there's nothing you can do.So many of the people I served with are no longer around and one day what we were exposed to will come full circle.Until then I just hope all the pharmacists who are trully having moral issues over dispencing perfectly legal and needed prescriptions take the time to find out who you by your own arbritartion have denied. There's other people not just veterans living with a pain filled nightmare of a life by no choice of there own.If you feel that strongly about trying to stop pain pill abuse work for the DEA.I've taken my prescriptions to several different pharmacies and because I'm new to there system no one will fill them. There will be no sob stories here. Not when so many people have lost limbs, eye sight and in some cases there sanity after all they have been through.I never imagined after all I've seen and been through and thinking at the time this would be the last time I would have to suck it up and tough it out like I had to that I would ever have to do it again but I will. In the end the only person that will truly suffer from this is the all powerfull I'll show you just who I am pharmacist.Just remember what comes around goes around in so many different ways.
The problem is this. The cops in Palm Beach Co., Dade/Miami Co., & Broward Co. dropped the ball and let all those pill mill doctors spring up. Then the documentary came around called the Oxy Express about how people were flying down here on the Oxy Express flight and getting drugs and taking them back to their states and selling them. The govenors of those states got really ticked and made statements on the documentary that Florida was out of control, bla bla bla. Pam Bondi ran for Atty. General and promised to "clean up the pill mills and drug problems" and when Scott got elected govener he and Bondi got together and made new rules restricting the amount of narcotics that comes into the state, which drs can and cant write scripts and a bunch of stuff that made the Dept of Health, pharmacists and doctors become the cops of narcotics. Those people don't know how to be cops so it has become a real mess. Also, when I couldn't get my script filled I tracked it down and the manufacturer was back ordered meaning they didn't make enough to go around. Also the pharmacys need to fill all your scripts if you have any. Try the smaller pharmacys closest to your home. Try going in and talking to the pharmacy manager or owner and take them more than your drivers license. We have to prove that we are not drug addits because things are so bad. Also I suggest you write to your Congress person for the state. In 1995 Florida had an Intractable Pain Law which said that doctors should be able to write scripts without fear of harrassment by DEA or any other agency. Well they changed the law because of a few counties. My doctor was an award winning doctor and well liked by other doctors. Dept. of Health took her license but she fought them and won and got her license back. The problem is the laws that they have passed that make it so hard now cause Dept. of Health and DEA are pressured to enforce the laws and Dept of Health isn't a cop and DEA isn't a doctor or pharmacist. So you have people trying to do jobs they shouldn't be doing. Unless people start speaking up and writing the govenor and other officials then nothing is going to change. Politicians don't want to loose votes so state your case. Call the media and ask them to help you. Do everything you can to bring it to light that the new laws are hurting innocent people who just want some pain relief to be able to walk around. Also, do other things that relieve your pain like chiropractic care, massage therepy, hot showers,,,,what ever you find that helps relieve your pain and if you don't know ways then find a multidisiplinary doctor who can teach you. This goes for everybody out there in pain who is having problems getting their meds or keeping a doctor. Good luck and God Bless to all...and to the veteran and or veterans who served our country, thank you for your service.
I agree completely... for 12 Years I was a Walgreens customer with the same meds, which I am on a lot because had 11 surgeries, well 2 of the meds is Oxycodone and soma, well one day went to fill meds and they Pharmacist said that Walgreens policy can not fill the 2 together any longer. So I went without the Soma for a month, and ending up in the Hospital really sick. My Doctor was so mad and referred me to a awesome pharmacy that said if I fill all my scripts there every month he will always Guarantee that he will fill my meds.. ( I am on 13 scripts ). This Pharmacy is awesome, been there 7 months now and never have a issue, the people always greet you, the Pharmacist is always nice and helpful and I am in and out in about 10-15 minutes. I know you are in Tampa area I use to live there but now in NPR I know it is a little drive but if you ever wish to go there you can email me at {edited for privacy} and I will give you the info... I promise you will have no problems with this place they are awesome.. I hope you get it straightened out because pain is no way to live. Walgreens seems to go out of way to be nasty, one day I was sitting waiting for scripts and people came through drive through and the tech and pharmacist would joke and laugh and pick which people to give meds to and which to deny.. I saw and heard it with my own eyes and ears... WALGREENS SUCKS on the corner of Suck and Suckiest :)

Re: Jane (# 167)
Your pharmacist does not just decide what medication to put you on that is up to your doctor. The pharmacist can't just say oh here I want to put you on this MS contin as well as your oxycodone I wish they could do that.
Re: patricia (# 7)
I switched over to Sav-On pharmacy in Albertsons. Walgreens drove me insane trying to fill my oxy every month. I've been at Sav-On for almost a year now and I'm yet to have any issues. Also if you're a cash paying customer it's a lot cheaper. They make it way too difficult for those in serious pain. We are not kids, leave us the f*** alone and stop with this overriding doctor bulls***.
Re: CMJ (# 6)
I have been to 4 pharmacies trying to get my oxycodone filled after being a customer for over 10-yrs at my local Walgreens and the new mgr refused to fill it. I also read Walgreens was sued for $80M related to filling opioids. The pharmacist wanted to control when I am under the influence, e.g., (I take one 30mg every AM with Norco thereafter for breakthrough pain for my chronic, permanent pain.) by putting me on a 12-hr time-released morphine drug for breakthrough pain with the oxy, thereby controlling how I take my meds. We all have things to do in life, and when I need to drive somewhere, I can't be under the influence of drugs. What they've done is criminal and wrong, and the chronic pain sufferer is the victim!
Re: DontJudgeWithoutAsking (# 155)
Amen! I feel the same way! I’m almost terrified to get my medicine filled every month. It makes me feel awful when I have to go and get my pain medicine filled because most of he time they look at you like you are a serial killer.
Most of the time I have my husband go and get my script filled. I shouldn’t have to feel this bad about it. I am in continues pain ALL day long and I can’t even imagine not being able to take it. I hope things will change in the future.
I'm responding to the person that said they got there Walgreens prescriptions 10 days later and they were happy with that I'd like to know what the heck they did for that 10 days I know I couldn't wait 10 days I can't be without my meds for one day
I haven't had a problem with Walgreens and I've been going to them for the past few months. I used to get 240 oxy 30s and was going to a moms and pops that know me but now I get 180 20s a month and Walgreens been good...if they give me a problem I'll just have to go back to paying in cash at the mom and pops pharmacy which I was going to for a couple years so they know me there...btw I just turned 26 so idk how much age factors in...when I was like 21 I would get weird looks
I had to go through shoulder replacement 8 weeks ago. I've been getting my pain meds from Walgreens and today I was told that they would fill it this time but no more. I have to get physical therapy and it's really very painful. I can't do pt without meds. The pharmacist told me my Doctor needs to put me on a long acting med. I went through that when I had my hip replacement surgery and they just didn't help. I hurt so much that I couldn't do pt without the immediate release oxycodone. I think that my Dr knows better than she the pharmacist what I need to help control my pain. Walgreens needs to have everyone to take their scripts some where else. I'm sure that they would change this policy. What gives them the power to try and say or think that they are god and try to think that they know what kind of misery we go through every minute of the day and night? I still think my Dr knows what's better for pain control. He went to med school for 10 years, but how about the jerks who made these policies? I'm going through hell because I am in severe pain. It is well known that it is really important for pain management to help recover. I hope everyone who reads this takes their business elsewhere. May God help us all who live in pain and suffer because the government bulls***. I pray for my sisters and brothers out there. GOD BLESS.
I like the people that say they are always in pain even after they take their pain medications they are liars they are just addicts trying to get as many pain medications as they can because after you take you are pain medication you are supposed to feel no pain. I like the way they wear back braces and ride their carts. I call BS on them
I've read a few times that people have gotten methadone and opiates as well prescribed at the same time. I've been on both and if you are taking methadone none of the opiates will work.
