I am curious to know your sons dosage of Vyvanse?

Glad to hear that this med is doing the job for you Barry. That's great news! That being said, there are abut 14 different meds out there to treat ADHD, and each of those drugs will work differently on each person. What works for one person will not work for another, and so on.

As I previously posted, I also have ADHD. When I was trying out the various medications to see what was right for me, I tried using Concerta. My experience with Concerta was a most unpleasant one. Within two days of starting this medication, I was extremely hostile, aggressive, and just plain mean. My heart pounded and it gave me the shakes. I wanted to beat the crap out of anybody that looked at me. I tried it for a week and these symptoms didn't go away, so I stopped using the Concerta. It took less than 24 hours to revert back to my 'sunny disposition' once I stopped the Concerta.

I have a friend whose son takes Concerta and she thinks it's a wonder drug and is doing miracles. This is stated purely to validate my point that every person with ADHD will react differently to different medications.

All I can say is that ever since we took my son off the Vyvanse, the anger, hostility, violence, bad attitude, and rudeness disappeared within 48 hours.

He's now taking Dexedrine spansules 3 x 15 mg/day (two in the morning and one at lunchtime). Yes, we've still had the odd "bad day" but those happen once or twice a month now as opposed to two or three times a week. I can live with that.

katt7369: Definitely take your child off the Vyvanse as soon as you can, and try another medication. There are at least fourteen different meds out there; with any luck you'll find the one that works for your child sooner rather than later. If that med doesn't work, then try another... and another.. and another. Keep the faith! It will work out for you :-)

Hi, my husband started to use Vyvanse one year ago and he became another person ... really agressive and totally negative. It so hard on our couple that I cannot bear him and with children it comes to a point that no one in the house could say anything at all. I still love him and I want him back so deseperately ... he was so lovely, charming and funny before now it's always like a war to finish with me and kids.

I would check his dosage. My DR recommends 20mg . I use 30mg now but would be fine with the 20mg. It does not make me aggressive and seriously helps a lot with my ADD. But if it makes your husband so aggressive that it interferes with family I would talk to your DR about it. Perhaps another prescription would work. Also, there are a lot of therapies and other methods to treat ADD. I hopefully will be able to explore them so I could stop taking a pill everyday.

My 13 year old son has been taking vyvance for about 4 years and the side affects are horrific my son became a very unsocial child. He was always angry and aggressive to everyone. I also notice that he lost a lot of weight and was not growing. It completely ruined his appetite When I decide to take him off the withdrawl's were even worse. He was depressed and angry and lazy for about a month.

Anthony: You're mistaken about the medications. They are NOT narcotics; in fact they're the exact opposite. ADHD medications-- with the exception of Strattera -- are amphetamines.

Austin: Good for you for taking your son off the Vyvanse. I believe that the withdrawal symptoms should be gone very shortly, and that they're far easier to deal with than the side effects he experienced while taking the Vyvanse. NOBODY should be that angry and hostile, nor should anybody have to deal with a person who behaves in that fashion.
My son will never have to worry about being heavy (he's skinny as a rail - but still considered healthy)...but his appetite is much better since we took him off Vyvanse and switched him to Dexedrine, and he's growing like a bad weed.
It's been nearly a year since we switched, and so far this school year we've had TWO major incidents with suspensions, as opposed to TWENTY-FIVE the year before, when he was still taking Vyvanse. This year, his teachers report that 'he's an absolute joy to have in the classroom' and that 'we love having him in our class, he's such a neat kid'. Last year, he was described as 'an exceptionally angry and difficult child' and 'unteachable and destined for juvenile detention'. Huge changes, wouldn't you say?!!!!
My personal experience is that all 13 and 14 - year old boys are lazy.. it's called being teenagers LOL.
But seriously, there are at least a dozen other medications available to treat ADHD. Try another one.. if it doesn't work then try another, and another, and another, if necessary, until you find the one that works best for your son. The important part is to keep trying and don't give up hope! Take care :-)

Hello, my name is Marshall. I am a junior at Creekside High. I used to be on vyvanse for A.D.D. 2 years ago. When I was on it, I was on it for 4 years. I NEVER experienced these symptoms. No addiction (quite frankly I hated taken the stupid pill), no tics, no tourettes, no irritability or aggressiveness. When I went off the drug, I did it because I thought I didn't need it anymore. I experienced no withdrawal symptoms. I have gone back on it for academic purposes and am succeeding in school. I think some of the accusations against vyvanse are a bit outlandish. However it is a very powerful drug and should be given the utmost care when taken. Part of the reason I don't experience some of these effects COULD be because of my tolerance to amphetamine from years of taking it, although I never experienced any of those symptoms when I started. I am healthy and very happy the only thing that could explain my resilience to the drugs side effects is my strong norwegian blood, although I highly doubt it. Ha!

I've been taking 70 mg vyvanse for 4 years now. I like it for about 4 hours, but after that, I feel nothing like myself. I have a difficult time expressing any emotions. Its terrible. I become the opposite of myself and I can't sleep even after 14 hours of taking it. I take it to get through days of work and little sleep, but its merely an addiction and I hate it. I wish I never took it.

I'm so sorry that happened. How are things now? I took Vyvanse for about two months and became so unbearable, even to myself.

I'm 19 and have been taking 20 mg Vyvanse for two years now. Compared to others' responses saying they became aggressive since taking Vyvanse, I've noticed I become angry very rarely... Sometimes I even think I should be angry, but am not. I also have the side-affect of being less hungry all the time, but still the medicine helps me a lot. I can get a lot more done like homework because of it.

It Is Not Your Child Or Your Imagination!!! It IS the Vyvanse!!! I have adult ADHD and I took the dose prescribed by my doctor. The first month not much changed except I experienced tics and a total loss of focus..
My doctor claimed the tics were already there(I wanted to tic inside-and just didn't know it), the meds just "uncovered" them, or brought them out.
Not True, but ok- manageable... He upped it 10 mg after that first month when I complained about the tics, and odd feelings of OCD which I've never had before...
Again- he said I already had these, the drug just "uncovered" the OCD...
Totally Not True...
One Day at the higher dosage and I experienced Rage and feelings that the world was against me... And crushing depression... That has lasted for 4 days with no more meds- just that one first dose...
I am very patient and loving, and solid as a person. These Outrageous Feelings were Caused by The Vyvanse...

Yes- this drug made me feel insane. I was quitting smoking at the time and attributed the aggression to that. Then the psychosis. When I stopped taking vyvanse it became clear I could be myself again. I was so frightened that was the new me. This drug works for some and doesn't for others. For an unfortunate few, the side effects are WHOA horrible.

I am so glad to see this entry. I am and add mom with two adhd children 7 and 19. My older one has so much anger towards me for having him and my younger one on adhd meds. My younger one is doing horribly in school and is on the highest dose of concerta I have been trying a raw dairy and grass fed meat diet and supplements but have just run put of money for ANY of the medicine or good foods. I myself have been on vyvanse bc of cfs and ptsd. I go to the VA. EVERY MONTH they screw up getting my medicine to myself and it exacerbates my ptsd. Some VA guy put me on venlafaxine and Omg it was HORRIBLE. I have been going through withdrawals for that for two months and now they are messing with my vyvanse again. I want to get off of it completely but I'm so fatigued without it. Now it has been two days of withdrawal plus my younger son is off his meds and I can't send him to school. I am so depressed and upset and helpless as to what to do bc doctors only seem to be able to repeat what these drug companies say about themselves rather than help. I put my youngest on intuniv that I had on hand from his prescription that I didn't want to give him if possible. It us helping a bit but he is going through withdrawals from concerta....happy thanksgiving to us! I hope to get us all off of this CRAP!!

I agree with u on every level u just described my 10 yr old son while on medicine, he hates school his classmates and says he want to kill them, he feels no-one wants to be around him, he's paranoid, when I talk to him in public he acts as though he's embarrassed by saying Mama be quiet u talking to loud they can hear u then he ducks and start looking as if everyone is paying us attention, he lgoes me, but while on meds he says I don't love u when I ask him, then he realize what he's said or did then he continusly apologizes I'm taking him off the meds

YES MY SON IS TO. AND IT IS SO UNLIKE WHO HE IS. HE IS ADDICTED I BELIEVE. HE IS ALWAYS AGGITATED, PARANOID, ANGRY AT EVERYBODY. HE LOOKS LIKE HE IS SCREAMING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THIS IS A MOTHERS NIGHTMARE.

I am an adult with ADD. I just started using Vyvanse about a year ago. It was working great and the only side effect I had was dry mouth, but now I feel Angry all the time! I had no Idea why until I did a web search and found many other has similar problems. I am only on 30MG. it has helped me in the other parts of my life where I needed it but this anger is not helping my marriage at all. I just have no Idea what to do.

Honey I know, it is the worst thing for relationships ever, you've got to stop taking it and get a replacement medication- it didn't get any better until I stopped taking them.
Almost lost my amazing boyfriend by being so unpleasant- we hadn't identified where the aggression was coming from until I saw this thread. Thank goodness. Trust me, it will get better.

I know this is years late but my son has been on vyvance for 1 year 30 mg. he was doing good until 3 weeks ago. I think I found the answer. I started him on Youngevityabetteryou products 3 months ago and he got so much better but I kept him on the vyvance for school. I think the youngevity products helped him so much he needs to come off of the vyvance because it's not needed. I'm going to test it for the next week and see. So far this weekend he's off for two days and no more irritability he's happy as can be.
