Hello, Sophie! How are you? I'm very sorry about what happened to your friend.
Vyvanse is a stimulant, so there is a risk of it causing such issues, in some people that take it, along with nervousness, insomnia, anorexia and weight loss.
However, I am not a doctor, so I can't definitely say if that is what has caused her problem. But stimulants can do that and its been known to occur with anything from energy drinks to coffee.
Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Hello,
yes. I am a 19 year old girl that just got away from the drug. At first, Vyvanse was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was so sharp and hardly needed sleep and was faster and funnier and just overal better,or so I thought. As the fall went on I lost touch with reality, my ideals and who I am without even realizing it. I would have manic episodes of extreme anger and emotion ( which is incedibly unlike me, I have always been the calmest person in the room) and I think the false sense of confidence vyvanse supplied did not help with that. What I cannot even begin to express is how terrifyingly quick I let vyvanse take over my life, you literally feel other worldly and are literally not in touch with reality. My life spiraled out of control and while it was no ones fault but my own, I didnt even realize the effects the drug had. Instead of making me better like it did at first it did just the opposite, and I hardly saw that. Now that I am away from vyvanse I feel like a zombie and have lost touch with who I am, and thats really scary. But letting a drug like that run your life is worse, so although your friends actions are totally her own, the drug enabled her to be someone she wasnt and made it easy to spiral out of control. Hope that helps
Hello Sophie,
Vivance can cause violent behavior, like any other amphetamine. Anyone taking this drug should be under the close supervision of a qualified physician. I hope and pray that your the authorities recognize the duty of your friends physician to assess any behavioral changes after starting her on an amphetamine. Amphetamines can induce a psychoses. When in this mental state, the affected patient may not recognize that their altered behavior is harming others. In order to be guilty of a crime, in the legal system of the United States, a person must be aware that what they are doing is wrong. In a full blown psychoses, many people do not have the ability to determine right from wrong. I hope your friend has a good attorney. There has been an unfortunate trend in this country to ignore the very foundation of criminal law and give in to an ignorant public craving for revenge. Such behavior by prosecuting attorneys is deplorable, because it undermines the foundation of an ethical civilization. In the words of the great historian, Arnold Toynbee, ordinary citizens emulate their leaders. Corrupt leaders lead to a corrupt society, which frequently results in civil unrest, sometimes leading to anarchy. As another great thinker, Michael de Montaigne wrote, almost any form of government is preferable to anarchy. But I stray.
Anyone experiencing violent or suicidal thoughts from a drug should stop it immediately, and call 911. Your friend's physician should have noticed, or at least asked questions about any changes in her mood. It may take many months for your friend's brain to start producing the natural chemicals that were depleted by this amphetamine. A good clinical psychologist can help your friend get back to normal. I hope and pray this helps your friend and any people hurt by her behavior. (Note: I am a complete layman. My advice and any knowledge put forth is from casual reading and should never be taken over the advice of a physician.) I'd like to end this with a quote from the writer Herman Melville: "There was once a time when justice was synonymous with mercy."
