Vicodin Side Effects And Alternatives

Hello,
I've been prescribed 5/325 due to chronic Back pain from degenerative disc disease (DDD). The meds make me feel really focused and alert, not drowsy. Now before I see a bunch of threads to tell me to stay clear of these drugs, I am not here to discuss addiction. I seeking out answers to two questions: why/how does it make me feel more focused and what alternatives are out there which don't give me this "high alert" feeling? Preferably something that isnt a CII drug. What is in hydrocodone that would make someone feel the opposite of drowsy? Its hopeless if I'm in pain after a long day because if I take a pill then I would be up all night and destroyed the next day. Which will eventually cause a chain reaction making me want to take it just to keep me awake. I'd gladly take something on the more drowsy side than alert. This is horrible! Someone please help! No doctor wants to listen, they just want to keep giving me hydrocodone or cut me open.

My pain management Dr. just keeps suggesting epidural after epidural. The epidurals aren't working. My spine specialist is starting to talk about surgery. I'm even seeing a psychiatrist because I'm having trouble dealing with the pain and functioning. I can't do much and it puts me into depression really quick. Maybe it is time for surgery :(
Hello, Jen! How are you?
There isn't anything special in it, or about it, some opiates just have that effect on some people. There's no explanation as to why, since everyone is different. You may not get the same effect from all of them, but it is possible.
The FDA classifies this as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
I'm sorry that the doctors aren't listening to you. What type of doctor have you been consulting? You may need to see a pain management specialist to get the help you need.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
