Hello, Nick! How are you?

In a way they are and in a way they aren't lying.

And the reason I'm saying it that way is because the FDA has put out an official request to all prescription drug manufacturers to lower the amount of Acetaminophen in all of the combination medications to no more than 325mgs per dose. They did this, due to the fact that long-term use of high doses of Acetaminophen has the potential to result in liver damage or failure, plus there have been some overdose related fatalities, since many people thinks it's harmless and would take several tablets, at a time, if one wasn't effective for pain relief…..Acetaminophen in amounts higher than 4,000mgs a day can be toxic.

The manufacturers are complying with the FDA's request and many of them have already changed their products to contain only the lower amount of Acetaminophen, with the rest having informed the FDA that they will comply and have all higher dose products off the market by January of 2014.

Thus, at this time, there is a shortage of the ones with 500mgs or more, since fewer companies are making it and all of them will be discontinued very soon.

Thus, your doctor is really just trying to make it easier for you to be able to get your prescription filled, because many pharmacies don't have any of the other doses in stock and, it would make no sense to give you the higher dose right now, when you'd be forced to switch very soon, anyway.

Is there anything else I can help with?
