Verapamil Differences Between Ivax/teva And Mylan
UpdatedI had been taking Calan SR 240 for a number of years to control my ophthalmic migraines. My health insurance said that I needed to go with the generic so they put me on Verapomil HCL by Ivax/Teva with no problems. Then the insurance company said that they would not cover the meds by Ivax/Teva and the pharmacy provided Verapomil ER by Mylan. After taking the new meds for 4 days, my blood pressure went from ~135/70 to 189/100. The pills from Ivax are Ivory in color and the ones from Mylan are blue. When I take the Ivax, my blood pressure returns to normal and skyrockets with Mylan. Since both pills are supposed to be identical, can anyone think of a reason why they so drastically different? My doctor has put me on Lisinopril to go along with the Mylan meds to control my BP. This sounds ludicrous to me.

Hello, Harvey! How are you doing?
Since you've been taking it for years, it is most likely that your body has just grown tolerant to the medication. This is completely normal and can happen with any medication that you take for a long period of time. Your body gets used to it and it stops working as well for you.
Many people require medication adjustments, after taking something for awhile, or need to add a new medication. Your doctor expects it to happen eventually.
Typical side effects to Lisinopril might include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, dry cough and hypotension.
How is your blood pressure now, with the added medication?
When I take the meds from Mylan, I take a Lisinipril with it. I do it for three days. Then I take the one from Ivax/Teva without the Lisinipril for one day. Doing it this way, has prevented my BP from getting out of control. What has be 'buggered' is if both meds are supposed to be the same, why does one raise my BP and the other doesn't.
When I changed from Calan SR to the Verapamil from Ivax/Teve, I had no problems with my BP, only with the Mylan.
There can be slight fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient from one generic to another, this usually isn't a problem for most people, but some people can be sensitive to any slight change and that may be the case with you.
I am the same way, my body reacts to any slight change.
How are you doing, now?
Thank you Verwon, for asking.
My BP is normal. When I take the 'bad' pill, I take the BP meds with it. When I take the good pill, I don't take the BP meds.
Now I need to wait for the New Year so that I can hopefully see a doctor/pharmacy that have their heads on straight so that I won't need to take two different pill to do what the one has been doing.
I have had the same problem. Have been on the brand Calan for several months and all has well but now having problems getting it. I don't if it is being discontinued or what.
