Hi Urs!

Yes, it is the same, both XR and ER are just abbreviations that denote its being a time released formulation of the medication.

The pharmaceutical industry has really gotten carried away with these abbreviations, there are many that are used to mean the same thing, aside from the ER and XR, you may also see CR, SR, DR, CD, LA, XT and others.
